What's new

Former DG-Rangers, Lt.Gen Rizwan Akhtar to command the ISI.

.
A Good Choice.....
DG ISI is one of the most important appointments in the Army....
Well if he for all his time as Lt General he remains DG ISI How long that would be ? I mean How many years ?

.
Congrats to Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar for becoming new DG ISI..... do correct me if i'm wrong, but wasnt Lt Gen Rizwan in-charge of KHI Oprn..... MQM wasnt happy about that Oprn....

Just Goes To Show He Is The Right Choice

Doesnt Rizwan Akhtar look tooo soft spoken for being a DG ISI? Whenever we have seen him speak...on media...he is too humble and soft spken. In se kon darey ga? Politicians will like him to have as DG ISI

Why Don't You Tell That To The Terrorists and Criminals In Karachi Whose *** He Has Been Kicking

Of the 6 Major-Generals promoted to Lt-General star rank today, 3 have commanded an infantry division and/or brigade in FATA

What is merit? In a corporate environment, it is the assessment by your seniors as to how good you are at you job. Any large organization including the armed services is no different. In all armies, whether USA, UK or any other for that matter, a lot of subjective assessment comes into play. For example Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf in his autobiography implied that Gen Colin Powel was appointed Chief of Joint Staff of the US because of his political friends.

An average general in Pakistan is normally in his early 50’s and after commanding a Division; in effect a mini army; would have sufficient experience in all aspects & branches of the army. When selected for promotion to the 3 star rank, the selected few should have the capability to successfully command any formation/section of the army including the post of COAS.

My point is that loyalty & trust by the Chief & the political head of the country are the main deciding factors for promotion to the very senior ranks of the armed services in every country. Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar is obviously considered suitable else Gen Raheel Sharif would not have recommended his name. My sincere best wished to Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar in his new post.

On the other hand, we have had two examples of ‘Sifarishi’ appointments in Gen Kallu by Benazir and Gen Ziauddin Butt by Nawaz Sharif. Let us hope that such blatant nepotism & out of turn appointments are never repeated.

Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar named new ISI chief

RAWALPINDI: Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, considered a close ally of Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif, has been promoted to the post of Director General Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) on Monday among other promotions within the army ranks.
The announcement was made by Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major Asim Bajwa on Twitter:
The announcement comes as current ISI chief Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam and five lieutenant generals are scheduled to retire from service in the first week of October.
The military officers retiring in October include ISI chief Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam, Mangla corps commander Lt-Gen Tariq Khan, Gujranwala corps commander Lt-Gen Saleem Nawaz, Peshawar corps commander Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani and Karachi corps commander Lt-Gen Sajjad Ghani.
All five positions are of paramount importance in the military but the chief of the ISI is regarded as the army's most important official after the army chief himself. The ISI chief is appointed by the prime minister, traditionally on the advice of the army chief. General Rizwan and Maj Gen Naveed Mukhtar were close contenders due to their experience of intelligence. Bajwa also announced the names of Major Generals who will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave approval of these postings on the recommendations of General Raheel Sharif

Profile of incoming ISI chief
Considered a close aid of the COAS, General Rizwan Akhtar is a graduate of the Command and Staff College in Quetta, National Defense University and the Army War College, USA, a military official told Dawn.
Rizwan was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in Frontier Force Regiment in September 1982.
He is from the Frontier Force Regiment and commanded the infantry brigade and infantry division in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
Previously as Sindh DG Rangers, Major General Rizwan Akhtar had been assigned with the task to lead the Karachi operation.
But the military had replaced him as DG Rangers Sindh with another senior military officer.
The decision by the military headquarters had come at a time when a joint operation by police and Rangers against terrorists and criminal elements in Karachi had been in its full swing.
Akhtar is also considered to have extensive experience of counterinsurgency from a previous posting in the border region of South Waziristan.
"He has served in a place like Karachi while remaining neutral and apolitical and has extensive experience of counterinsurgency and counterterrorism. He was the obvious choice," said a serving military official who had served with Akhtar.
"He is a professional soldier who has experience of both Fata and internal security in Karachi,” an army official told Dawn.

" For Nawaz Sharif, the bottom line is that he doesn't want another Zaheer,” said a defence ministry official, summing up what the prime minister was looking for in his new spy chief.

" Somehow, the PM has never considered Zaheer his man. And that's been a source of great anxiety for him. So he wanted someone who doesn't have political leanings.”
He will take over as head of the ISI on October 8

Sir when mentioning sifaryshis let us not forget the ones that jump the que like Musharraf who superseded Lieutenant Generals Ali Kulli Khan and Khalid Nawaz. Or how ZIA-UL-HAQ jumped the que.

it is the superseded ones that malign the army name.
