NEW DELHI -- In a brazen display of classist arrogance frequently meted out to security guards and other support staff in Delhi, a foreign national felt emboldened to slap a member of the security team of former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Friday. The provocation was that he was doing his job and stopped her from entering the venue after the dignitary for security reasons. The outrageous incident took place at a book launch event in Delhi on Friday.

Singh was on a panel discussion organized at the WWF India auditorium by the Ananta Aspen centre for the launch ofThe Making of Indian Diplomacy – A critique of euro-centrism, authored by Deep K. Datta-Ray.

In this video, shot by Press Trust of India photographer Vijay Verma, the guest is seen as arguing with the Delhi police constable that she had registered for the event and should be allowed in.

"He was part of Delhi Police's security detail for the former PM. It was not clear from where she was, though to me she seemed Turkish. She threatened to slap the policeman and then did it also. Sadly although it happened in front of other policemen, they did nothing," Verma said, adding that her identity should be easy for the police to find out since she had registered in advance for the event. Delhi police deploys a security detail for the movement of protectees of the elite Special Protection Group.

The unidentified woman first hurled abuses at the man, threatening to slap him, and then, unprovoked, slapped him before walking off in anger. The man seen shouting at her at the end was another guest trying to get inside like her, who was angered by her act. Watch the full video below.

If this stufff spread out in the media the woman would be in trouble.
The policeman is just following the orders of his superiors.

While this lady had no right to slap anyone, this VVIP nuisance is out of hand. Sooner or later something like this was bound to happen. Just because an exPM. Is attending a panel discussion no one else can enter the room? How many other countries treat people this way? I have seen MPs waiting in line at the post office in Europe. Time for the Indian VVIPs to stop behaving like @ss****s .

What this lady has done is interrupting govt officer in his duty

It is a rule after a Chief Guest arrives at a function the entries are closed. May it be anywhere in the world. When the entry is closed, means you cannot enter. Come early if you want to get in.

Femenazis on the roll , they don't want equality but superiority.I am sure she will make stories about how he made sexual comment or something and people will undoubtedly believe her because she is a woman.

Again, I do not condone this woman's actions, she is obviously out of order. I sure would hate to be in her employment esp. As a domestic!

She should be brought up for assault BUT can you tell me one thing.....not long ago a similar video was made of Stalin, a Tamil Nadu politician slapping a passenger on a bus for not showing due respect to him. Can you tell me if any assault charges are going to be brought against him? Will one hair on his head be messed with? . The fact is that we have one law for the rich and powerful and another for the rest of us.

Which one of us has not waited hours in the sun because some VVIP movement is expected and the roads are all closed? How often are planes delayed because some VVIP is running late? Have you ever had to stand aside twiddling your thumb because some VVIPs son is making his way to the gym?

This is getting out of hand. India is a republic, these people are supposed to be our representatives chosen from amongst us. In fact they behave as a chosen people, there own schools, hospitals, water supply, roads closed and painted especially for them to move in.

If the panelist had been an eminent scientist, author or businessman instead of a politician would security have been so rigid? Is the contribution of a scientist, author or business leader so insignificant compared to that of a politician albeit exPM? Are we not all given the same rights in a republic ...or is it that some are more equal than others?

This lady is out of hand, but if the situation was reversed and a politician slapped her, all she could do was turn the other cheek.
