Ford to stop making cars in India

Indian car market is crap - sales roughly same since a decade. Ford predicted that by 2020 annual car sales will be 10 million. Instead they are 2-2.5 million and most of them tiny cars used like toys abroad.

western companies are mad thinking they can make money coming to supa powa by selling stuff that average Indians can not afford

It's not that they don't have money, but they are looking for 'Cheapest' in everything, always bargaining for the lowest priced item that they will somehow (they hope) be able to get away with. We call this quality "Kanjoosi" in the subcontinent, and the people "Kanjoos".

In Lady Windemere's Fan, Oscar Wilde had Lord Darlington quip that a cynic was 'a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Most Indians have this mentality (not all of course) and belong to this category.

It's not even the East Asian concept of "Cheap and Good". It is "Cheap and shoddy and one-time use".

I guess Ford cannot cater to their extraordinary demands....

I called these cars "tinpots made with tinfoil" and Indians call the Mods.

Truth hurts. Indian cars mostly get zero/one stars out of five in NCAP safety tests in Europe (except a meagre few). Still in the same boat today more or less.

No one cares about chassis/body integrity and auto-safety in India. Accident fatalities are horrific and very high. Their Cheater industrialists will not do anything since govt. (and safety regs) is in their pockets - no recall or public liability in India.

Here are the results of NCAP testing for Indian cars,

Four years ago, most Indian cars got zero stars in NCAP testing,

TATA & Mahindra have changed the Indian auto Industry for forever, their safety scores are best in class & have outperformed ford & others in features.

Can you name one 100% bangladeshi Car which has scored 5 star rating ?

I don't like comparing any Industry with bangladeshi one as its degrading but these lungis needs to know their place.

Cheap ? Ford is unable to compete with them.....this is not lungidesh.

like I said cheap cheaper stuff, same reason iphone no sales in India

. . .
Ford cars are horrible not offence to anyone here.

. .
These numbers are too low for the size of population. But still nice to see that Tata and Mahindra are able to keep up with Japanese/Korean makers.

Any news about what happens to the Ford factory line after they move out?
Not really, in fact it's comparable to the income and not population. Tata is going to topple Hyundai soon, their line up is coming great. They still have to adress their after sales services which Suzuki and Hyundai excel. Mahindra needs more refinements, they're still going with the "tractor" mentality.

I think Tata or Hyundai is going to buy the production line, Ford exit been talked about long before this announcement
MG should go the same way... enough of its nonsense products..

1 Bull power..
I like MG cars, except their resale value.
