Some very good ones that educate to some rally shitty ones that make you just literate with majority falling in between.

how is the average university in Pakistan? what is the feeling about the education from there?

as a student of the leading university in Pakisan, i can tell you that the problems with our education system are not the lack of funds, english language, corrupt teachers (though this is THE first time i have heard this claim, perhaps @syedali73 was a victim himself), the problem is lack of progressive thinking. This problem exists not just in the admin but also in the students. our teachers and students are happy and content with the current level of education and do not want to move forward. and I am sure its not just my university which is plagued with this midevil mindset, other universities would have the same ideologies too.

Are you serious? You have never heard of such claims? Maybe you havent reached HIGHER education YET or been in the loop...Being a student it is easy to miss such things only if you are a victim you will see them and feel them HOWEVER, being a staff member these things are present EVERYWHERE...Work politics and whatnot...However, in Pakistan it can quickly jump a few steps ahead of what is normal!

And how do you suppose to solve that from NON CORRUPT teachers who are giving you all their lives so now it should be the students to blame since the teachers ARE NOT corrupt / lazy / missing lessons / giving points based on gender ....

Another 5 avenues for haram khouri. Worst kind of lecturers will be appointed and degrees will be sold. That is all that is going to happen in these 5 new Universities. We have new trend in Pakistan that anything not even worth of being called a College is declared as University. Tuition centers located in rented houses are called School and Colleges. What a wasteland.


Graduates from these Universities cant even write a single grammatically and structurally correct sentence in English or in Urdu let alone a research paper (BTW universities are meant for research and not teaching). This is the standard of so-called Pakistani universities.

If you are so critical about the standards then why not Mr. Internet warrior just come back to Pakistan and do some thing for the country instead of spitting the usual venom from your mouth. People like you just talk, in actual you people are lot worst than these corrupt politicians.

Exceptions are there but I was talking about the standard of 'average' universities in Pakistan and they are producing exactly the kind of students that I have described. I am on the reviewers panel of some so-called good Universities and when I happen to check student's theses and interview them during their theses defense, I feel like leaving the room and never to examine another student from Pakistan.

dude its not your universities that are producing lame population, its your culture that produces youngster who have no confidence, they are discouraged to do anything by their parents. Everything you do in life increases your knowledge and confidence. How many times you hard parents saying to their kids, "Beta tum bus perho abhi kam ne kerna hum mer gye hain aur log kya kahain gye". You are suppose to agree to every bullshit your elders give you with "Ji han". Same situation when you go to school, you teacher shut you up everytime you open your mouth and worst even make fun of you in front of class if you say something they dont agree with. The only thing different in the western universities is that the teacher encourages student to have a different point of view, otherwise I studied the same Math and Physics in US as I did in Pakistan and just like in Pakistani university there were some exceptional teacher and some lame. The best ever Math teacher I ever had was in Pakistani college.

My parents brought us here for better education. But when I tell them I want to do Ph.D., they aren't too happy considering it's going to take 8+ years to complete and rather have me do 5 years masters.

My parents are still progressive (I can still do Ph.D. If I wish to). But some parents will be, as you put, just so high school, or some arts degree that lands you no where. People who do 4 year degree in Canada also don't find jobs easily. Masters is a minimum. And you have to get a degree for which there is demand. I mean would you get a degree, example, in oil when oil prices are crashing and people are being laid off? Yes, it will be cheap to get degree, because people wouldn't want to study this field and hence there will be ample of space. Then when student is finished studying, he will come on ARY and say Nawaz govt hasn't given him a job despite him doing 4-8 years of degree.

The problem with pakistanis are, they're too backwards and all their problems are due to the govt, corruption, etc etc. I mean look at their workplaces. Here you get 1 hour break for lunch, but in Pakistan, it's lunch all day. Oh this client has come, time for tea or kabab. All day it's abut food. A bit off topic, but Pakistan outgoings are also "oh let's go to murree, let's go window shopping, let's go and eat." But not "let's go hiking, let's go skiing, surfing, body building" etc etc.

We can't progress until we let go of our backwardness and employ some of western ideas. Eating all day or going to another city isn't everything, and blaming others for everything also isn't the solution.

Teacher used to say 'jaidi tumhara kuch nai ho sakta'. Bhala hamara kia hona he hahaha. Everything is fine except employer don't pay on time

On a genetic note, people must avoid cousin marriages, to have intelligent and healthy kids. Govt can bring a law to prohibit such marriages. See the result in couple of decades, alongwith bringing educational reforms.
