cmon even pakistans first subs weren't the latest and greatest... but look at them now... you guys got good submarine fleet.... we just started... let us play with it for some time before we can actually operate a better one!

These are primarily going to be used to provide training and experience in sub-surface warfare. There are a lot of things that need to be in place before we are ready for new subs, a new sub base, upgraded yard, hydro data etc.

In the next decade or so, we will buy new subs (prob from China) with improved defence budgets based on a growing economy (we only spend 1.2%-1.5% of our GDP on defence)....a new sub costs $500m plus.

With out India BD was not possible that is big reality, they created MB and provide full support in creating BD that is reality, if India had not involved BD would have remained EP may be with more autonomy.

Now on topic, what capability these subs came with? Any major upgrade in them? BD can work with IN to improve sub operation capability as they have experience in sub operations and also have one of best MPA too.

unrivalled because no one had a sub in the region... compare that to most modern PN got against IN, y'all are lagging behind....
we wanted underwater capability to protect our national interest... we don't want our economy to falter from sea blockade by whichever nation choses to place one in the future...

and is it a sin ti buy the subs so late? your question has no logic.... it if did i would have asked you... why did pakistan attain nnuclear bombs in the 90s why so late... why not right after america had attained em...

Why old Chinese subs?? BD have better economy now (as per BD members here) why not good tested western or Russian system like Type-214 or Amur class or used ones like Type-209 or Kilo class?

chang bogo is a good choice.. it takes german tech... then merges it with US origin sensors and equipments... longer range... better payload etc etc.... one refuel will last us years... cause some 10k km range or so.... with that you can sail to UK i believe....
