Providing currency bills is not easy, at least for India. We have to provide 67 times more currency bills than what U.S. shipped to you in this case. And Iran wanted the payment in Euros. That would be 70 times more currency bills.

6.5 billion dollars + 1.5% interest. That would roughly amount to 444567500000.00 rs. + Interest. Definitely India can't provide that amount in bills.



Definitely we cannot go against the barrage of sanctions. It is not gutlessness but I believe that it has been agreed upon after mutual talks by respective governments. Any transaction that may attract international attention will be questioned by U.S and fellow parties involved in JCPOA and may invite trouble for us. That way both countries would be in trouble. I dont know whos doing your sums but the us sent iran 1.7 billion in 3 shipments without too many problems at all,the indian debt is only a little less than four times that and thats because india had allowed it to mount up.
If it wasnt out of gutlessness/fear of the us that india went along with the sanctions then what was it?,a desire to cozy up to the us?,or just an opportunity to take advantage of irans problems?
