Look at the fookin' dirt in the harbor! :o: No wonder our ships keep getting grounded! It's high time they concentrate on dredging ops in all harbors.

The combination of the western ranges, monsoon season and the seasonal changes in Indian ocean and Arabian sea currents creates constant silting on the west coast of India. Which is why we do not find too many natural deep ports in India. Constant dredging is expensive.

Cochin Shipyard undocks India's maiden indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant - The Hindu
Vikrant, weighing about 22,000 tonnes now, will continue to be outfitted for over a year and a half now before the basin and sea trials begin ahead of delivery.
India, on Wednesday, crossed a major milestone in defence shipbuilding when the maiden indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was undocked on completion of structural work at the Cochin Shipyard.

The carrier is slated for induction in end-2018.

Senior officials and workers of the public sector yard witnessed the undocking, done around 2 pm.

Problems with the dock gate and siltation at the gate mouth had forced the yard to postpone the undocking a few times earlier.

This time around, flooding of the dock and ballasting of the ship had begun on Monday itself. Once the vessel was floated over 8 metres of water pumped into the dock, the floodgate was overturned, after which Vikrant was pulled out by tugs.

Vikrant, weighing about 22,000 tonnes now, will continue to be outfitted for over a year and a half now before the basin and sea trials begin ahead of delivery.

"Almost 90 per cent of works below the fourth deck, all underwater works, is over. Major equipment have gone in. Cabling, piping, electrical works, heat and ventilation works will take place now. Delivery of systems and components for the aviation complex designed by the Russian Nevoske design bureau is expected anytime now," said an official.

The undocking is part of the second phase of work on the carrier, which is expected to be complete by 2017, when the basin trials will get under way.

Why insult me? Everyone knows Chinese engineering is better than Indias. Their Aircraft Carries are much better than Indian ones. Soon we will have them in our fleet thanks to China!

For your information,China's CV 17(Type 001A,an improved version of CV 16 Liaoning)is due for launch Spring or Summer 2016. The race is on as to which of the two ships - Vikrant or CV 17 - gets commissioned first。Mind you, CV 17 is about 20000 heavier than the Vikrant。

For your further information,JNS in Shanghai has started construction on the first unit of CV Type 002, a flattop which is expected to have a displacement of some 80000 tons.

China is also working on Type 003 CV with nuclear power, EMALS and all that.

All 100% indigenous.

The same can't be said about India which relies on foreign aviation equipments, power plants, propulsion systems, radars, CIWS and a host of other subsystems and materials for its carrier, imported or otherwise. lol

Let us wait and see.

lolz,you cant make anything by your own and now bowing in front of others to get the AC. It will take at least a decade for you to make and get an AC.
