so let's just say the Rafale deal is $20 billion
Mirage at $40 million would be $16 to $18 billion

over 500 aircraft for less than $40 billion :butcher:

J-10B has AESA. Only F-16 Block 60 can take on J-10B, but is not as advanced due to lack of DSI technology. F-15SE is not operational. F-18E can take on J-10B, but also lacks DSI technology. F-35 is not operational.


DSI is not a weapon, it is an inlet design in removing boundary layer air. The boundary layer air is extremely turbulent and hence it can damage the blades of the turbine.

LCA,EF Typhoons, rafale and f22. Removes them by physically slicing the air with a wedge shaped object.

Also the air that goes inside is also regulated by complex mechanical arrangements.

For dsi, there is a small metallic bump with thousands of small holes, powerful suction pumpus phically remove the boundary layer air.

So there is sufficient air going into engine to give better performance . apart from that, it doest do any magic..

A weaponless f35 can be shot down by any Mac 2 fighter with just its guns. DSi won't save it...

DSI is more advanced than moving intake and replaces the latter.

why didn't India just decide to license build the Mirage 2000-5 MK2???

That was IAF's prefered choice in the initial MRCA tender, but the prospect of getting big vendors like the EF consortium with EADS and BAE, or Boeing into the competition gave a chance for far more industrial and technical return, than a deal for 126 x M2K-5s would had given India. Not to mention that the production line was about to end and France already started replacing their older fighters with Rafale, which made future (expected operational life in IAF for up to 40 years) upgrade potential difficult.
It surely would had been a great stop gap measure, but Rafale and EF clearly offers more capability and more future potential, while the M-MRCA tender also aimed on more industrial advantages in return.

It is easier to comment than to be it in the scientist's shoes.

Except we are talking about the defense and security of the country. Its not a question of how hard it is, they have to do it and we as tax payers expect no less and have all the bloody right to rant and bitch.
Arre sir jee, Dhoni to kal bhi chhaka maar sakta hai, right now we need to keep up with the times and lets face it no matter what DRDO, HAL or any other PSUs were up against they have been lackadaisical.

I'm just saying could of went for the Mirage 2000 to replace the Mig-21 Bison instead of LCA Tejas.

No, since the MRCA tender was changed to the M-MRCA, so it was either the one or the other to replace the Bisons, because of the LCA development delays. So the foreign fighters were the safe option, to not depend only on LCA to replace Migs.

By this time, JF-17 Thunder block II would be in PAF's arsenal Inshallah---we refueling probe, improved avionics, increased payload capacity, and all-round weapons integration.

Tejas is miles, miles behind JF-17 Thunder now in terms of project development/management.
Do you know that Tejas is inducted in service already since 2011?? It has relaxed static stability and full fly by wire , AFCS, CFC, integrated digital avionics system, smallest and lightest aircraft with significant usable load and still enough maneuverable to give your JF 17. Are you aware that since last one year Tejas is certified and taking off with three tons of weapons including LGBs, going supersonic with load, is pulling out 7gs, 24 degree AOA.

within six months it will start operational sortie with Derby and Python BVRs, frontol gun, refulling probe, 28degree AOA. By june 2015.
