Female foeticide, India's 'ticking bomb'

Which means for every 100 females, there's an extra guy in BD. The 1 in a hundred single unwanted guys just have to settle for foreigners, like Russian or Colombian girls. :(

Edit: just an observation.. for under 15
BD's gender imbalance X 4 = Sri Lanka's gender imbalance
BD's gender imbalance X 6 = Pakistan's gender imbalance
BD's gender imbalance X 13 = India's gender imbalance
lolz.. what if bd had zero imbalance?

dont be too angry, you might explode. I just showed pakistan is better off than India.

its both urban and rural in haryana and punjab. Goes to show being rich and prosperous does not change social ills.
Yes Haryana is a mess i think but i think it is also changing After all the most women wrestlers comes from Haryana.

Sex selective abortions are more prevalent in the North and Western states, where as the states in South and East India are performing quite well in maintaining a healthy female-male ratio at birth. What is unfortunate and depressing is the fact that in two Eastern states the child sex ratio, in fact has fallen since 2001. In Orissa, it fell from 953 (2001) to 934 (2011) and 909 in urban Orissa (contrary to some members above who presumed it to be the opposite). In Jharkhand too, the child sex ratio has fallen from 930 to 904 during the same period. These are quite disappointing to note, as the pace of improvement is extremely slow.

PS: India may learn from international experience, especially from Bangladesh where the same ratio is around 972, much more than any Indian state.

Don't shoot the messenger. :D I think female foeticide in modern times is very unique to India.

Unique? So, China and South Korea are part of India now?

Gendercide Watch: Female Infanticide

Used to be practised by pre-Islamic Arabs, so I heard.

Arabs had modern abortion techniques? Do you even know the difference between a feoticide and an infanticide? To me, as an anti-abortionist, both are deplorable. But in a world were pro-choice movement advocates the right to abort, foeticide cannot be seen the same as infanticide. However since you mentioned female infanticide, here's something for you:

I wonder what the esteemed members from the land of pure have to say about you calling them pre-Islamic arabs.

I guess rural China comes close. Don't know about Korea, but you're deluding yourself if you think it' as widespread.

Does the distinction really matter? So you think you're better because you are killing them before the girls are out of the womb? Indians...

You deluded yourself into believing this was, to use your own term, "UNIQUE", to India. You should admit you were wrong and get yourself a dictionary to understand the meaning of the word "unique". I don't see any point in playing this game where you will keep shifting your goalposts.

Post reported, man you're sick. With people like you there's no hope for India's women.:sick:

The issue is not tackled at the level where it should be. Parents already love their daughters, at least the majority do, and that will be there whether they take a selfie with their daughter or not. This problem goes further then hash tags and pictures or quick fixes with a few speeches.
But the issue that is ignored is the feeling of the daughter being a burden. With the typical system of dowry being practised it is very difficult to perceive any shift in this issue, as well as the perception that men are the ones who will provide. Also a loss of humanity and morals is worrying and is something that needs to be tackled before it becomes engrained in society at large. Right now the Indian society is moving towards chaos and with the difference growing every year things will turn towards more subjugation of women and crimes like rape will increase even more then they already are.
Short term solutions in my opinion would be the use of special tax write off's for having daughters, special pay benefits for having daughters as well as ban on ultra sound machines in unsupervised hospitals or clinics.

ban on ultra sound machines in unsupervised hospitals or clinics.

What a fantastic idea? You are such a futuristic thinker. NOT.

I think you should tell your govirment to go for the ultrasound ban. Then again, can't help it if people are gonna kill them AFTER they are born, right?

EDIT: Yay! My first negative rating. Thanks man. People here really hate it when someone holds up a mirror to them, don't they?

THis is a stupid decision, portable USG is not the only problem, rather it is those in private clinics. It takes all of 10 seconds to determine the sex of a baby and private clinics can do it with regular machines. The issue is to have trained invigulated staff who will stop telling the sex. As for your link, it is a sorry thing that Pakistan has this problem, but it is poverty which has compelled them to do something wrong, here in India it is a cultural problem. There is a difference.

Under 15 sex ratio:
china: 1.17
india: 1.13
pakistan: 1.06
bangladesh: 1.01
sri lanka: 1.04

Asian countries show preference towards male, but in India especially north, the situation is dire.

so whats the perfect ratio ? 1.1 ??
