What's new

Feeding Dhaka from South Asia’s largest kitchen?

In our office, we used to have boxed lunch cost us 70tk(3 items - rice, fish/meat and vaji/daal) but food quality is less than average. Everyone got fed up and we decided not to continue. Now we are having lunch in restaurants which cost us 120tk and extra time. If this catering company can deliver quality food, they will be very successful in this business. But I am surprised they didn't include Motijil area.

The point guys - is hygiene. If they can maintain quality and hygiene, I really don't care about taste that much. Just don't make me get stomach cramps or get me sick with bacteria.
Meh, you firingis and your sensitive stomachs  The healthy stuff won't suit our body and it'll go into shock.

Rasta-r pashe fuchka/chotpoti je ki hygienic. My sister in law got food poisoning the 1st time she came to BD - but, they've been back 3 times in the last 3 years...and she no longer gets sick.

Seriously though - it'll be clean. As others who have food catered to them in Dhaka will tell you, taste varies with these caterers, but due to the competition and of course the target market segment being office goers - the food is pretty clean and fresh

essentially a Bangladeshi 'Bento Fatory' of Bangladeshi food in Dhaka! hope this succeeds!
isn't tk95 is a bit much for a everyday one time meal or is it because of those special boxes?!!

Those boxes are sterile food-grade plastic and supposed to be reusable more than once (a few times).

Point well taken - I rarely eat out in Dhaka. Boiled hermit food at home. I am no match for Formalin and bacteria. :-)

Very good initiative for working people . Tk. 95 is very less if we consider hygiene and quality. Most of the cheap street food and cheap hotel foods are unhealthy . It will also reduced burden to bring food from home.

95 taka is not expensive in Dhaka. Not sure about the quality but price in very reasonable.

The menu includes rice, fish, meat, lintels, soup and desserts at a price of Tk95.

A Bangladeshi catering company claims to have opened the largest kitchen in South Asia.

Bangla Tribune reports that the company, Khan’s Kitchen, claims that its Dhaka kitchen will be able to prepare healthy meals for millions each day. It claims that it will be able to offer not only hygienic, but also cheap meals, offering consumers a menu that includes rice, fish, meat, lentils, soup and desserts for only Tk.95.

Upwards of 3,000 people will work in the gigantic kitchen, at a 15-bigha plot in the Notun Bazar area of Dhaka, once it is fully operational.

Afroza Khan, the managing director of Khan’s Kitchen underscored the need for the innovative project, an increasingly crowded food market.

“Dhaka is one of the most densely populated cities in the word. Around 44,000 people live per square kilometer here, most of which are working class. According to a survey, most of these people suffer from stomach ache which takes place because of unhealthy food. This is what made me think about such an initiative.”

“I have been gathering experience in this field for the past three years, as I always wanted to do something a bit different the factory is all set to start its operations with the help of my husband Ali Ahmad Khan.” She added that “Internationally recognised chef Tony Khan will be in charge of the kitchen.”

A director at Khan’s Kitchen, Alif Khan, said that that the kitchen was being built with modern German technology including a state-of-the-art fourth generation high-efficiency classifier.

The kitchen will also have a steam injection system to cook the meals.

The company plans to be able to provide meals to its its consumers in specifically made boxes which are capable of keeping food warm and safe to eat for more than six hours.

the food looks delicious

Naan should have been included in the menu or at least an option. Too much rice is not good for health.

These food are prepackaged and then reheated. These poses certain restriction on the type of food that can be grouped together. Naan won't work , you will end up with a really dry crumbly naan.

You will see all the food is steamable and wet to allow the reheating process.

For this type of catering no crispy, fried or dry food is possible.
