Fearful India Sees a Savior in Narendra Modi.

.
I consider Modi to be India's only chance of attaining "sustained double-digit growth", and hence the only way India could become a direct competitor to us in the future.

Whereas Congress and AAP's super-socialist schemes will finish the job of destroying India's economy, they might as well be agents on our payroll.

The question becomes, which outcome better serves our interests? In this scenario, I think both outcomes are equally good for us, one in terms of losing a potential competitor (Congress + AAP rule), and the other in terms of booming trade profits (Modi rule).

About Modi's alleged (and yet unproven) crimes against Indian citizens, that's none of my business. My concern is reserved for Chinese citizens.

If one Indian citizen kicks another Indian citizen on the ***, frankly I don't see why I should care.

^^^ This guy gets it.

Show him what? The thing that's lurking inside your underwear? :D

Dude seriously, economy is not the only thing. You need to have a society that's liberal, open and flexible- not one being led on the jingoistic tunes of a demogogue. This is especially important because India is the biggest country in the subcontinent.

Economy is the not the only thing but it is the most important thing.

Without a large economy and high GDP per capita you can pretty much forget about having a liberal , open and free society.

Hitler's germany was economically the most prosperous in it's history and historically the most bigoted nation on the planet.

Hitler was charismatic but dumb.

He attacked half of the nations of Europe in one go, and right when he was winning, he decided to open up the Eastern front against Russia. Which was amongst the stupidest decisions in world history.

Also, he accused Jews of being "Christ-killers". Which was patently absurd because Jesus Christ himself was a Jew.

He was the wrong man at the wrong place, adept at giving speeches and harnessing the power of the mob. He wrote Mein Kampf from a jail cell, the guy was basically a thug leader, with just enough complexity to make him dangerous.

I think you are mistaking a DICTATOR with (what will be) a DEMOCRATICALLY elected leader.

You aren't questioning MODI here, you are questioning the RIGHT of Indian People to DEMOCRATICALLY elect there leader.

If you don't have faith in your people that we won't go down that road , then no one can do anything about it. Modi is no Hitler. Not even close. In fact, he is warming up to the Muslim community now realising that if has to become PM , he has to take the entire country with him.

It's really surprising people compare him with Hitler when he has won elections in Gujarat not once but thrice & that too with 65+% of majority. There can be only two reasoning than:

1. Either elections were fair but than you are accusing the sanity of an average Gujarati Voter.

2. Elections were rigged but than you are questioning the conduct of a completely NEUTRAL body called EC.

But why are people even questioning those who support Modi on the first place?? Has India Ceased to be a DEMOCRACY?

And Hitler wasn't even that great with the economy. Yes, unemployment went down, but real wages also collapsed during the same period. And with the severe lack of resources, the German people had to live on rationing in the years before the war.

In fact that was a key motivator for Hitler's desire to seize land in Eastern Europe, to plunder their resources at a time when Germany was running out of resources. This was a key part of Hitler's famous concept of "Lebensraum", I.e. Living space.

Having studied Nazi Germany, my perception of Hitler was one of a thug leader who came to power by sheer luck and the desperation of the German people, and a man who had just enough complexity to be dangerous, but at the end of the day was doomed by his own stupidity.

In this respect, Hitler and Modi are NOTHING alike.

Hitler was stupid, Modi is smart. He understands that trade and industry are much more beneficial than war, by a very big margin.

You're talking about the specifics of the mistakes he made. But Hitler, no matter how abhorrent, was a great organizer who won over his people by promising (and delivering too) on economic growth. The more the time went on, the more the germans prospered and more their society decayed into a mess of racism and hatred. And no matter what mistakes made (think the fire at the reichstag or day of the long knives) the germans forgave all of it because he 'delivered', until their country was completely destroyed. Indians are in the mood to forgive modi for everything from rioting to woman stalking to bring in corrupt leaders coz we now have a 'savior'.

You're a bit too enamored of modi, even if I accept that he was not that great on the economy.

Yeah right, we're made of some special sauce. BTW Germany was one of the most sohpisticated societies before the 1st WW. Look around you, you don't need hitler- Even a pakistani JeI can screw you bad.

.
@Aeronaut - "Our land our rules" :coffee:
@Chinese-Dragon - We have a lot to learn from you. Foremost being hard work. Modi means good economy. Good economy means better India. Period. After the Court's exoneration of Modi in the riots case(even though Modi is NOT in the Center), I see no reason why Indians should not support him. True - the leftist elite class will have sleepless nights, but their time of entitlement is over. :agree:

Another comparison between Modi and Hitler. I can safely conclude you know nothing about Hitler. The characters are vastly different. The hard no nonsense look of Modi is not enough reason to call him a Hitler. :P Especially now that the Riots claim can't be thrown on him anymore(legally that would be contempt of court) :D

Irrationality has no cure. Haters will hate. People like GuyNextdoor deserve Congress. We deserve better, or at least the chance to have better.

Exactly before WW1 Germany was one of the most sophisticated societies and then the WW1 happened. Those were different times and Hitler rose in an era when Germany was down and out and oppressed by sanctions imposed on them by the victors of WW1. India is in no such situation right now. There is just no comparison.

As for the latter part , I don't understand what you are saying.
