From left to right: Chieftain, Challenger, Leopard 2, Abrams, Vickers mk7.

Vickers Mk7 mounted a "Universal Turret" from the earlier Mk4, which was offered with different gun options such as the rifled 120mm Royal Ordnance L11A5 from the Challenger, the 44-calibre smoothbore 120mm Rheinmetall L44 or the smoothbore GIAT CN-120 F1, on a Leopard 2 chassis. The fire control system was Marconi's "Centaur".

Personally, I think the M103 is pretty scary

My pick is the Challenger 2. The best in the business. Only problem is a lot weren't produced.

Indeed, perhaps the original poster should have been more specific and have referred to 'post-WW2' tanks.

Russia:
Heavy tanks: JS-2 to JS-10/T-10
Medium tanks: T-44 (T-34 replacement) > T-54/55
Main Battle Tanks: > T62 > T-80 & T-72 > T-90 > T-14 Armata

USA:
Heavy tanks: M-103
Medium tanks: M-26 Pershing (Sherman replacement) > M46 = M26E2 with new powerplant > M-47 = M46 with a new turret > M-48 Patton > M-60
Main Battle Tanks: Failed/Cancelled MBT-70 > M1 Abrams.
Light tanks > M-41 (M-24 successor)

UK
Comet 1 (A34) light cruiser tank (Cromwell AT complement)
Centurion heavy cruiser tank (Cromwell replacement)
Conqueror heavy (infantry) tank (Centurion AT complement)
Main Battle Tank: Chieftain (Centurion successor) > Chieftain 800 (with Chobham) > Challenger 1 > Challenger 2

France
Heavy tanks: ARL-44 heavy tank > AMX-50/M-4 (+ AMX Chasseur de Char, M-4 based tank destroyer) and Char Sumoa SM > cancelled in favor of M-47 (USA)
Medium Tanks: Char Lorraine (+ Canon d'Assaut Lorraine) > Failed codevelop standardized tank with Germany and Italy > AMX-30 > improved = AMX-32 > improved = AMX-40.
Light tanks > AMX-13
Main Battle Tank: AMX LeClerc

Germany
Failed codevelop standardized tank with Germany and Italy, tandard-Panzer, to replace the Bundeswehr's American-built M47 and M48 Patton tanks > Leopard 1

Failed MBT-70 development in cooperation with the United States beginning in 1963 > future upgrade options of the Leopard 1: vergoldeter Leopard (Gilded Leopard) > Leopard 2

Israel
Merkava Mk1 & Mk2 (105mm Centurion replacement, competing with Chieftain) > Mk3 (stabilized 120mm gun & turret > fire on the move. Bigger engine > faster. ~Leo2) > Mk4 (new fire-control system, modular armor, engine)

Japan:
Type-61 (~M47, M48) > Type 74 (~ M60, Leo1) > Type 90 ( ~Leo2) > Type 10

Italy:
OF-40 (Leo1 equivalent) > Ariete (Leo2 equivalent)

Brazil
Light: MB-3 Tamoyo
Medium: Osorio EE-T1/T2

Argentina
Light: TAM

Austria:
Kurassier (AMX-13 equivalent)

Switzerland
KW.30 (2) > Panzer 58 (10) > Panzer 61 (150) > Panzer 68 (390) > abandoned NKPz (alongside Centurion and Leo2)

Leo2/Abrams equivalent not listed above e.g Rokit K-1, K-2, Altay, Arjun etc.

I should have added excluding WW1 tanks. I meant only to start from WW2 and then the standard MBT.

I'm weird, so anything fitting this description jives with me

Second World War

T-60 and A-40 glider, though it was too dangerous to be practical
