Fatal shooting at a Pakistani Wedding

The 15th century? Right, the wheel lock was invented then, hardly a comparison with automatic weapons. Yes there are drones but they don't hold ground, men with weapons do. The US thought a quick air campaign would break the Taliban and the movement would sue for peace, they didn't, and now they operate with impunity and control large tracts of land. Even the allies during the Second World War with an air superiority of many thousands to one needed troops to push on and win the war.
As for the Afghans they turned the guns on each other after victory, Pakistanis do not, bar Bangladesh which had significant Indian involvement, and do remember the outcome of the Soviet war and I've already referred to the current war above. Do you honestly think that hadn't the Afghans not been an armed and warlike population they would have driven the Soviets out? Yes they had help, but they did much of the fighting and the place was awash with weapons. With the Arabs I assume you are talking about Iraq? Have you ever spoken to American servicemen? I have, and they told me that the Sunni "triangle" was a living hell. At one point they were losing 100 men a month, and the US lost 4,424 personal and 31,952 were wounded. This was just from a small part of the population around 15-20% as the Shia (bar Al-Sadr) refused to fight and the Kurds had already allied themselves with the US forces. Sure it didn't change the outcome but it hastened the withdrawal.
I'm not sure what you're getting at with the rest of the Arab states, Syria is an inter-Arab war, and the rest are at peace.
Of course I agree that unsafe firing is stupidity and people should be arrested for it. If it's safe then there is no issue. Oh and I have come across an "ultra" everything, facist, liberal, religious etc.
The bottom line is a large population with guns in their hands scares an invader, you only need to look at history to see what happened when a population was disarmed, be it Iraq during the Mongol conquest or at your very own doorstep when Hyderabad was taken by the Indian army during partition and the Muslims were disarmed, mass rape and murder followed.

Its nice that you summed up the history of the middle east of the past 40 years but I don't see how that has any relation to this lol. In the 15th century there used to be dedicated squads with war horns and battle drums to raise the morale of the troops because that was true psychological warfare. But now the situation is very different and using guns for entertainment has 0 relation to self defence and guerilla warfare. I don't think India or Taliban think twice before attacking us because they see some drunk retards like this waving around their guns in the open air. As for your part that guns will help should a foreign invader decide to attack I do agree with that obviously as it has proven historically effective. But as of right we are still in peaceful times (relatively atleast), arming locals and easing gun control will turn all of Pakistan into Karachi from a couple years ago.

Anyway, this whole firing culture has a psychological impact on the enemy. When they see large groups of men firing thousands of rounds into the air they will be thinking "man they do this for fun, what happens when they are serious"? They know that millions upon millions of men will take up arms side by side with their forces in the event of a nationwide attack.

What a wonderfully romanticized explanation for manifestly stupid behavior by a few uncouth drunkards showing off their impunity over law, as if they will deter an invading enemy. :D

I already condemned the firing by drunks, and who are you to question their courage if crunch time came?

. . .
Pakistanis should continue to arm themselves but stop doing such stuff. This guy should be prosecuted instead of weapons ban on the whole society.

BTW I love it how the americans (or self exiled Pakistanis) here are pushing for ban on weapons. Are you guys doing the same in USA? Heck even your presidents don't have the balls to take on the american gun lobby

There are scores of Pakistani who are not mature for wielding guns. And firing in weddings should be banned.

Gun culture might instill confidence in some but it can easily backfire under irresponsible hands. Look at the history of Karachi, Balochistan and KPK. Scores of incidents in Punjab as well.
