“Baitullah is a Pakistani and we as the Afghan Taliban have nothing to do with his appointment or his expulsion. We did not appoint him and we have not expelled him,”
“We do not support any militant activity and operation in Pakistan,”

Agreed.Afghan talaban ruled by seperate shoura and they dont have any control on Baitullah activities or Fazullah

But because many times GOP made agreement with tribal jirga and then truce violated by killing group leaders example Naik muhammad, brother of baitullah , these groups now dont have trust on the jiraga and also on GOP.

So practically jungle law is prevailing in Tribal area which is supporting Foriegn Fighters and Al Qaida.

.
I strongly second what Anwar2 is trying to explain here.

This is to note that TTP is not (entirely) carrying assassinations of Maliks or leaders of the Tribes. It's the United States. There's no doubt in any sane' person's mind in NWFP that the assassinations are carried by United States perpetrated criminals that are posing as so called Talibans (the situation is not as simple as some people here interpret and call them "TTP", to create a situation of "terrorism" and then Push Pak Army into the civilian areas for certain objectives.

The situation at hand there is, some invisible hand is killing th eleadership of the tribes to create a vaccume and then filling it with some miscreants by labeling them "locals" and then dictating PA to conduct operation against the so called militants, that had been killed in 1000s, yet no names of the so called miscreants, no pictures of the bodies, nobody knows (except civilians) that who they were. Yet the certain media excellently reports that dozens of "Militants" killed and the next day we hear a news in international media praising Pak Army.

The design here is, create terror, to incite terror, in order to react to terror.

There is no doubt that anyone who believes such nonsense, without a shred of proof, is not "insane" but rather paranoid and not capable of understanding the world that he sees before him. The depth of your hatred of "the west" and, the US in particular, is consuming your brain, cell by cell. I'm not sure there is much grey matter left......

There is also no independent media covering the events in battle zones ,so there is chance that some thing fishy fishy is going on---- ,which we dont know while observing and listening CNN,BBC news thausand of miles from home .

Only realiable source left if some body have family links in army and government at high level.

Frequent drone attackes depicts that there are agreement between GOP and US.That is reason general public including religious and elite class hatred for west is increasing. You should blame US policies which are main cause of hatred.

Come on Mr. Waraich66! A "chance"? There is a chance that aliens from outer space are fomenting all of this trouble. WE DON'T REALLY KNOW! Right!??

Well i see that in every single post you have made to my attention, you have shown some super frustration and nothing else. As you said stupid is as stupid says.

So stop diverting the matter at hand with a hatemongering diversion to the west to portray that every person who questions the imperialism of United States is hating west. That's stupid.

The ground reality is, america has been interfering in FATA against Pakistan by supporting a group of militants through her proxies financially, militarily and with manpower, and creating a chaos there by hiding behind the scapegoat "Talibans", which they propogated already as super alien criminals.

So anything happens, throw the mess on the talibans, and rest the press will take care of it.

Linking things unjustifiably

By Shehryar

Concatenation has now become an art in practice especially among a good few Pakistani analysts and journalists who can be aptly described as an authority on linking things together.

The commoners dwelling this country are convinced that a reasonable number of our leading lights in the media have become adept in this art and not only that, anything that comes to human imagination, whatever its improbability, it appears in the print or electronic media the next day.

This is rather a very unique phenomenon or practice witnessed only in this part of the world called Pakistan. That, however, doesn’t call for pushing our media to the wall. It is rather the collective observation of quite a large number of intellectually alive Pakistanis that has been summarized in these lines encouraged by our media’s commitment to freedom of expression. It is this commitment because of which the media claims to entertain views of all kinds even though they criticize media.

Taking encouragement from this commitment of our media, there is need to draw clear distinction between some points of comparison laid down in some sections of our media. Take, for example, the idea attributed to an Arab-Palestinian leader in the form of a question that if Hamas can be received in Cairo, why can’t Pakistani rulers invite Taliban to Pakistan?

Well, every leader or a commoner has every right to draw comparisons and pose questions but the actual facts are quite different from their first impression. Unfortunately, these facts have never been conveyed to the outside world by our opinion-makers. Or they have still not been understood in entirety by our opinion-makers. Or, probably, some hidden agenda is being pursued.

The reality is that in Pakistan all the militant and warring factions that have killed a large number of innocent civilians and non-combatants including women and children, were, time and again, offered the olive branch by Pakistani authorities that include the political and military top brass. Some peace agreements too were signed with mutual acceptance in big tribal congregations called jirgas attended by traditional representatives of people from different tribes inhabiting Pakistan’s highly troubled spots.

What happened in the end? All those agreements were torn into pieces that too by the militants themselves. As a matter of fact, the militants don’t consider themselves bound by any Pakistani law, what to talk of agreements or pledges. Breaking such pledges is not difficult for them given the fact that some militant groups are being prompted (and maybe funded and trained) by forces inimical to Pakistan’s existence.

Does this hold true in the case of Hamas? The answer is ‘No’. Then, have Hamas people ever gone to the extent of bombing and killing of military personnel belonging to the armed forces of Islamic countries including the not-so-friendly Egypt. The answer again is ‘No’.

Now let us discuss the point being trumpeted in the same breath about US drone attacks. It has been highlighted that the Egyptian government has shown greater strength in comparison to Pakistan government at Islamabad that is contenting itself only with statements resulting in unabated continuation of drone attacks.

Nothing substantial has been written about the demonstration of greater strength as to what particular ‘measures of strength’ have been taken by Cairo. It is not understandable what greater strength is required by some Pakistani circles and media in fighting the US drone attacks.

Can anyone suggest solid, immediate steps to stop the US drone attacks in keeping with the military might of the US and Pakistan’s own limited military capacity? The suggestion in this context should not be merely rhetorical in nature or in the strain that is usually resorted to by some media-persons i.e. saying a thing without taking any responsibility or saying a thing knowing fully well that consequences, whatever, will have to be borne by the actor (or the government or armed forces) and not by the adviser (from media or any other segment).

Why don’t the media come up with a national consensus based on concrete, widespread, sustained opinion polls that drone attacks should be stopped again and again with full military might?

Some people still mention the poor role of a large number of media seniors during the National Defence University’s National Media Workshop Number 1, when all the participants of the workshop and the guests from amongst media seniors posed just one question to the then president, Pervez Musharraf. The question was as to what was he (Musharraf) waiting for to take action in Lal Masjid? All the media seniors present over there unanimously pressed upon action in Lal Masjid.

Those in the know of things believe that the media persons making such suggestions were aware that if and when Lal Masjid operation would be carried out, they (the media) would have nothing to lose but as for Musharraf, he had so much to lose: So, no harm in hurling a suggestion or a concatenation, is the theme being followed by many a good segment of contemporary world, particularly Pakistan.

Yes, this is an excellent piece. Is the author the Shehryar Mufti of Dawn TV? His observations not only apply to media types, but also to opposition politicians who irresponsibly criticize the policies of someone who is "in power" and struggling with "no win" situations. And, it certainly doesn't just apply to Pakistan. It is an endemic human being problem, called here in the US as being an "arm chair quarterback". Maybe in Pakistan these people would be "arm chair bowlers"? We have a goodly quotient of them here at the PDF ......

^^^
IMO the media in Pakistan could not express freely for long periods of time after independence. The media was in an observer position during most of the time. So the culture did not develop completely to give policy suggestions to government. Naturally the interest for writers on policy direction will come down. They will have to peek outside, see if the story will not be objectionable to the government(whatever dictatorship) before expressing their views. So the point is they were not heard in the past very much. It would take time.

Why is the author comparing military might of US with Pakistan? They need not confront US militarily to make a strong statement to stop drone attacks. Is the government asking media before everything?

Do they need consensus before acting on drone strikes? Acting on drone strikes should come up in 'Territorial integrity101'.

The Lalmasjid question is stupid. It was already late to act on the situation.
Please tell me if media was so free as to suggest things to government at that time(mushy's time)?
Like they would have pressed for musharraf to get lost first and tried to get democracy.

Politicians and media are there to criticize. The lessons may come late. But thats how democracy works.

Your statement, here quoted, is a lie that you cannot prove.

Already in 2005, a report by the US National Intelligence Council and the CIA forecast a "Yugoslav-like fate" for Pakistan "in a decade with the country riven by civil war, bloodshed and inter-provincial rivalries, as seen recently in Balochistan." (Energy Compass, 2 March 2005). According to the NIC-CIA, Pakistan is slated to become a "failed state" by 2015, "as it would be affected by civil war, complete Talibanisation and struggle for control of its nuclear weapons". (Quoted by former Pakistan High Commissioner to UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, Times of India, 13 February 2005):

"Nascent democratic reforms will produce little change in the face of opposition from an entrenched political elite and radical Islamic parties. In a climate of continuing domestic turmoil, the Central government's control probably will be reduced to the Punjabi heartland and the economic hub of Karachi," the former diplomat quoted the NIC-CIA report as saying.

Expressing apprehension, Hasan asked, "are our military rulers working on a similar agenda or something that has been laid out for them in the various assessment reports over the years by the National Intelligence Council in joint collaboration with CIA?" (Ibid)

Continuity, characterized by the dominant role of the Pakistani military and intelligence has been scrapped in favor of political breakup and balkanization.

According to the NIC-CIA scenario, which Washington intends to carry out: "Pakistan will not recover easily from decades of political and economic mismanagement, divisive policies, lawlessness, corruption and ethnic friction," (Ibid) .

The US course consists in fomenting social, ethnic and factional divisions and political fragmentation, including the territorial breakup of Pakistan. This course of action is also dictated by US war plans in relation to both Afghanistan and Iran.

This US agenda for Pakistan is similar to that applied throughout the broader Middle East Central Asian region. US strategy, supported by covert intelligence operations, consists in triggering ethnic and religious strife, abetting and financing secessionist movements while also weakening the institutions of the central government.

The broader objective is to fracture the Nation State and redraw the borders of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

British intelligence is allegedly providing covert support to Balochistan separatists (which from the outset have been repressed by Pakistan's military). In June 2006, Pakistan's Senate Committee on Defence accused British intelligence of "abetting the insurgency in the province bordering Iran" [Balochistan]..(Press Trust of India, 9 August 2006). Ten British MPs were involved in a closed door session of the Senate Committee on Defence regarding the alleged support of Britain's Secret Service to Baloch separatists (Ibid). Also of relevance are reports of CIA and Mossad support to Baloch rebels in Iran and Southern Afghanistan.

It would appear that Britain and the US are supporting both sides. The US is providing American F-16 jets to the Pakistani military, which are being used to bomb Baloch villages in Balochistan. Meanwhile, British alleged covert support to the separatist movement (according to the Pakistani Senate Committee) contributes to weakening the central government.

The stated purpose of US counter-terrorism is to provide covert support as well as as training to "Liberation Armies" ultimately with a view to destabilizing sovereign governments. In Kosovo, the training of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in the 1990s had been entrusted to a private mercenary company, Military Professional Resources Inc (MPRI), on contract to the Pentagon.

The BLA bears a canny resemblance to Kosovo's KLA, which was financed by the drug trade and supported by the CIA and Germany's Bundes Nachrichten Dienst (BND).

The BLA emerged shortly after the 1999 military coup. It has no tangible links to the Baloch resistance movement, which developed since the late 1940s. An aura of mystery surrounds the leadership of the BLA

Army repairs destroyed bridge in Khyber
Staff Report

PESHAWAR: Engineers of the Pakistan Army have repaired a bridge destroyed by the Taliban in Khyber Agency and have reopened it for traffic, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said on Friday.

The ISPR said the bridge, en-route the Pak-Afghan Highway through the Khyber Pass, was repaired within 72 hours and could be used for all kinds of vehicles.

The original bridge, built in 1923, was destroyed by the Taliban on February 2.

:tup::tup: Good Job there!

Good job indeed-especially that they did it in 72 hours. Shows the militants that no damage done by them will be permanent. Morale booster.
