farmer commit suicide in AAP ralley live on TV

how does having 400 private news channels help??

what is needed is a political system where any citizen may be able to raise a issue and if the issue is within bounds of reason and common sense, it must be followed by the system and resolved... this will come about if the society's political arrangement is via direct-democracy, where the voice of a citizen in a neighborhood is openly delivered to the body governing the entire society.

compare the inequalities within india with its highest number of media channels to the lack of such things as farmer suicides and "honor killings" within socialist societies ( with their limited or lack of private media ).

while immediately, rajasthan government is responsible, the political/bureaucratic system there is no different to that of anywhere in india, especially the other farmer-suciding states like andhra, karnataka and maharastra.

this is a india-wide problem which can be only resolved by replacing the entire british-style fake-democracy political system of the last 68 years to a socialist direct-democracy system where money and resources are spent on the welfare of the people and not on buying foreign weaponary.

late last year, 69 farmers died of hunger in the tea estates of darjeeling... died of hunger in 2014... what did pm modi do about this?? oh, i know... signed deals with western weapons manfacturers so that he can kill chinese and pakistanis and naxalites.

When you have 400 independent channels all report go noticed... public outcry happens..... whereas in communist regimes people go unaware about who dies... forgot those famines under communist regimes??? Due to govt controlled propaganda these never reach common men.. moreover you don't have to commit suicide...you will be killed by police if you protest against govt... :enjoy:

So why is the govt. not buying at Rs. 140 a Kg ? Even with a shortage of rice and wheat after unseasonal rain, how come the price has not gone up ?

Why not Rs.140,000? Rs.14 a kg is way more than what most would get in the open market.

If the farmer faces risk, he can buy weather insurance/crop insurance sold by insurance companies for a price. If the farmer cannot pay that price, then let him exit farming.

This analogical equivalent of this is saying "I'm a cab driver, I have a car - and I face high risk because of Uber - so govt should pay my motor insurance".

please look at this thread... one farmer has suicided and most members on this thread are playing "blame the victim"... i already have reported janjaweed and now i report anonymus... they clearly take anti-human stand.

That is not true.

Take example of Wheat.

Price of wheat in USA is equivalent to 1297.98 Rs/quintle while MSP for Wheat in India is 1400 Rs/quintle.

Farmers earn less because they have small uneconomical land holdings, not that they are robbed blind by government.

Wheat - Daily Price - Commodity Prices - Price Charts, Data, and News - IndexMundi

Govt increases minimum support price for Rabi crops, including wheat - The Times of India

Wheat is cheaper in the US because they can afford to buy cheaper wheat from rest of the world. The subsidies given to Us and European farmers is 10 times that given to Indian farmers.

There is no equal playing field. So why the equal comparison ?

Ya true... anyone with economics knowledge who know that india faces two prob.. first is uneconomical land holdings.. which gets smaller in each generation due to more fertility rate...2nd inadequate mordern farming and storing technology ...
Govt is responsible to for 2nd reason...

What open market ? Farmers in US and Europe are subsidised to provide cheaper grains.

Farming is a key food security area of India. Do you know how many Famines India has seen ? Be careful what you wish for.

Farmers will not only quite farming but will also turn their land into non farming land, then we will be begging for food and hand outs from the US.

Then figure out the analogy.

You want to feed 1.2 Billion people and then you dare farmers to quit Farming :cheesy:

How does that work ? By eating sand ?

.
Govt should see that farmers get hands on modern technology atleast proper irrigation.. in most of india still farmers are dependent on seasonal rain and buffaloes with no store house.. so much of funds are allocated for these issues vanishes in air and farmers stays where they were previously...

.

Which is precisely why we have the land rule in place where farming land cannot be sold - it must be consolidated and made capital intensive. Handing out freebies to small farmers will just make them linger on - not an effective practice. As anonymous mentioned earlier, 50% of India's population who are in farming constitute roughly 15% of our GDP. The burden is on the rest to keep the system going.

Any amount of crying and complaining would not negate this established truth that you are a brain-dead, logic-fail commie who cannot understand ratio and proportion.

So now you ask farmer to quit farming but you prevent him from converting his land to non farming land

What happened to fair play now ?

If a farmer cannot produce enough to feed himself, how the hell can he feed you ? Then why is the food grain cheap ? Why is he not paid the FAIR price that reflect the true status of food shortage ?

.
Anothet prob in india is the middleman and mahajans etc... the middleman buys i very cheap rate from farmers..
The mahajans gives loan to farmers at high interst rates... govt should via nationàlisd banks extend small loans to farmers at minimal interst...

Gajendra Singh, farmer who killed himself in Delhi, wanted to join politics

The family of Gajendra Singh Kalyanwat, who committed suicide at the AAP rally on Wednesday, owns some 10 acres of land, including a gooseberry orchard and a teak plantation — but the man’s heart was not in farming.

Family members and friends remembered the 43-year-old, father-of-three as politically ambitious, having unsuccessfully tried twice – in 2008 and 2013 -- to fight the assembly elections as a Samajwadi Party candidate. After that, he wanted to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

He left the village 3-4 days back saying he was going to try to meet Kejriwal,” said Amit Singh Kalyanwat, Gajendra’s nephew. “He said he would stay in Delhi with his brother who is a constable of RAC there.”

A purported suicide note left by Gajendra said he had lost his crop in last month’s untimely rain and hailstorm. But local officials said crop loss in the Baswa tehsil, under which falls Gajendra’s village, had been between 20-25%, far less than the damage in many other parts of Rajasthan.

Some are saying he was already an aap worker.

At 00:50 Kumar Vishwas casually asking if he is dead or alive...one hour after he attempted suicide.
Looks like an AAP stunt that went horribly wrong.

First, the farmer has an option to sell it to the government or the open market.

Second, in every business there are rules. Bankers for example have to hold certain amount of liquid cash as reserve. Insurance companies have to be approved by IRDA. Manufacturing companies cannot lay off employees randomly. Fisherman can't fish two months or so a year to enable fish to breed. These are the rules with which business operates and it's called legislation and is intended to protect the interests of everyone else. Farming is no different.

Free market is RUBBISH since it does not reflect reality. US and Europe subsidise farmers so they can afford to sell the produce cheap.

If you want to protect Farmer interest then provide him a fair and level playing field.

Either you pay him the price that actually reflect the strategic IMPORTANCE of food security like Rs. 400 per Kg.

OR

You provide him with Insurance, easy finance, scientific guidance, irrigation, fertilizer, education, modern tools, social security etc.

You cannot have it both ways.

You cannot exploit the farmer and then claim you need food security by exploiting them. Where is the legislation to protect the Farmer ?

.
Since the risk taken by the farmer is high, why is he not eligible for automatic insurance ?

A farmer cannot sell his agricultural land for non agricultural use, but he is denied insurance. why ?

I agree with you that farmers should have insurance. Preferably private insurance and farmers should pay the insurance premiums themselves. Why this has not been done so far is I guess the same reason why so many other things in India are a mess.

When there is a shortage of rice and wheat in the country the answer is not to raise MSP repeatedly, that is what Sonia govt did and we had run away inflation. The answer is to IMPORT food stuff from the world market.

We should be more worried about how productive we are not food self sufficiency. There are plenty of countries producing food at a fraction of the cost that we can . If our farmers had better paying jobs - say industrial jobs- they would be more productive and we could import cheap food and everyone would be happy.

I agree the farmer should be provided with insurance, fertilizer, scientific methods etc, but after all that our population is still too high to be heavily agrarian. Farmers need to be soaked up in manufacturing and service jobs. The money earned will pay for food.

Food security is rubbish, India is already buying up vast acres of land in places like Ethiopia to provide food for Indians in the future. If I recall the activist brigade had a problem with that too.
