Farakka Barrage was completed by India in 1974, it is located 10 km from the Indian side of the border between India and Bangladesh, in the state of West Bengal.

India illegally uses it to control the flow of the Ganges river depriving Bangladesh.

The dam was built to divert the Ganges River water into the Hooghly River during the dry season, from January to June, in order to flush out the accumulating silt which in the 1950s and 1960s was a problem at the major port of Calcutta on the Hooghly River.

Bangladesh and India have had many debates about how the Farakka Barrage cuts off Bangladesh's water supply. Also in Bangladesh, the diversion has raised salinity levels, contaminated fisheries, hindered navigation, and posed a threat to water quality and public health. Lower levels of soil moisture along with increased salinity have also led to desertification.

there was Google Earth pic showing the barrage. The water level flowing towards was so low...damn I wonder how the hell do we grow crops anyway.
so are our rivers drying up,farmers dying, crop growth falling?

Alas, Muslims generally take long time to understand who is their real enemy and who is real friend. India cannot be the friend of Bangladeshis or muslims as they want more and more weak muslims around them. This was the real reason behind their "Great Help" during 1971.
Muslims must take care of Secularist and Athiest Leadership getting hold of their countries and taking them toward destruction and darkest future. If the muslims as an Ummah still not turn towards the path of Allah, destruction will be their destiny.

River flows from and through India, I cant wait for the Joining of the Rivers Project. It will make sure our farmers get water everywhere, and there is no draught in India ever.

There are MANY MANY problems in that project, to say the least. There are SEVERE cons to that project. I doubt if it would be implemented.

Malay, we will need political commitment from all parties for this project that is most important... with regards to problems it is technically challenging project and we have all expertise to overcome it ... and it will bring prosparity to INDIA ...:yahoo:

Mate, when i say there are cons to the project, i mean economic cons. There would be materialistic, actual materialistic losses in doing that project. Therefore i say, the risks involved in the Garland project are very high compared to the gains. So its the governments call, whether they want to do it or not.

Dont think of it as some magic construction that will help India, sure it will help, but it will bring many problems as well.

We have to learn from our mistakes and KBAGDADI bro you are very much right, i agree with you, we need good leaders

Regards

Mansoor
