HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police arrested a fake baba who allegedly misbehaved with a 19-year-old housewife here on Wednesday.

The baba, Shaik Abdul Raheem, is popularly known as Bhai Miya used to dupe people by promising them to cure their aliments. His followers also believed that he had the ability to transform a female foetus into male by influencing DNA. One such follower is Mohd Sadiq (50). Sadiq and his wife Samina Sultana (50) of Hyderabad old city wanted a male child for their daughter-in-law and allegedly paid Baba to help their daughter-in-law to deliver a girl child. The baba took Rs 20,000 from them and promised them a male heir.

The woman, a resident of Nampally, married Mohammed Mansoor in 2016. Mansoor, who works in Abu Dhabi, left for work after 24 days of marriage. After a few days of him leaving, his wife's pregnancy was confirmed, following which Bhai Miya was approached in October by the in-laws. She was taken to the baba's house repeatedly. He then molested the young woman and had given her some oil to apply on her abdomen so that her female foetus would turn into a male.

Arrest Parent in laws also. They are guilty of forcing the woman to go to Baba.SHAILENDRA

Though she complained to her husband and in-laws about the incident, they did not heed to her. When the girl refused to visit the baba any more, her in-laws threatened to abort her child and also with divorce. However, when she delivered a baby girl in May this year, her in-laws demanded Rs.10 lakh from her.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered against baba. Charminar police arrested baba' and the woman's in-laws.
