Buddy Black Hawk Down was completely different typ0e of operation. It wasn't done by Special forces. It was Marines and Rangers if I am not wrong. And look at number of soldiers involved.

This operation was as told S&R like, Like one in Tears of the Sun.

You are wrong, SEAL team 4 & 6 ,Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta,160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Were the participants.

Nonetheless they killed 17 al shabab fighters in process . and this is surely escalating !!

Seriously WTF they kidnapped French military personel held them hostage and threatened to kill them. What do you suggest a christmas card and a polite request for him back?

Yes the hostage was killed that is sad but always a risk, a pilot was killed it appears because supprise was lost and poor equipment choices.

The French did however demonstrate that unlike some other European countries they wont roll over and hand out bundles of cash to criminals. They showed that kidnapping French troops wont get you rich it gets you dead and they deserve credit for that.

French are only good at romance and literature, they are too soft for tough jobs and wars. :D

The French can not fight wars. This was proven in both World Wars. The British and Germans are much more experienced.

Better call Iran Mission 2.0

Raising Eagle you're referring too?

Black hawk wasn't special forces mission.

And the "Black Hawk Down incident" took place when the 160th SOAR were supporting a joint assualt by Rangers (not SF) and Army Compartmented Elements, ACE (formally Delta Force)- Special Forces!

+It is interesting how active the French are in the region wrt military ops yet somehow they have managed to carve their own path and one that has nor riled up all the crazies against them. The UK has done far less in the region of late and yet (primarily because of close alliance to US) is one of the most hated countries by the extremist Muslims.

Confirmed: Missing French spec ops guy is dead.

According to Al Jazeera, they have just condemned him to death. He's not dead yet, though.

Al-Shabab is saying the sentence is a response to France's rescue operation.

So far, France's attempt to "pull the American" has not worked either in Mali or in Somalia.

With Francois Holland already being a bit unpopular AFAIK, this could make his rule a bit more uneasy and unpopular.

French means fail!
Though the French can produce state of the art weapon systems, their troops are like sissy wissies! I've seen them in France and they look like they could wear some bangles! Most look like lily livered bumpkins!

I guess they should be sent to either Pakistan or India for some toughening up and training on how to fight insurgents!! :cheesy:

*French sent spies into somalia
*One of them was captured in 2010
*Today elite french spec ops, were sent on a 'Covert S&R' mission.
*Mission failed when Alshabab, fighters overwhelmed French spec ops in the firefight.
*1 French sepc ops guy was killed, one missing. And the french Captive killed.

Hollande's presidency can be in trouble over this.

Black hawk down 2.0?
Who asked them to think they are USA even USA went through hell in Somalia and they though they could do this on their own Man they really need to wake up

Look at all the keyboard warriors having a laugh at the expense of a martyred French soldier.
It was a failed mission, but GIGN is no joke!
They have successfully completed hundreds, if not thousands of missions, and are active in Afghanistan and Africa.
The Pakistani members might appreciate the GIGN a little more if they read up on their contributions during the siege of Mecca.
