F-86 Kills MiG-21

isnt that a surprise? Indians later on tried their level best to destroy that captured Gnat but failed.

The captured Indian pilot placed a bet with his Pakistani counterpart, that let alone fly the Gnat, the PAF pilot wouldn't be able to start it, but in the end, being a POW, he was in no position to honour the bet. F/L S.A. Hatmi of PAF flew the aircraft from Pasrur, where it landed after surrendering, into Sargodha.!!

where is that plane by the way? in PAF Museum or sold to the local junk-yard?

The Gnat is on display in PAF Museum, but i always wondered what happened to the IAF Ouragan which was forced down earlier in 1965 by PAF fighters.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get all these stories??

Stories.????.... Just like the stories that we are told Dinosaurs ruled the earth 65 million years ago, the temperature of the sun is around 5500 deg and the distance to the moon is around 384 000 Km.
BTW, not sure what the alcohol rules in Pakistan were back in 1965, but the bet was for six bottles of beer. !!

Recorded in personal accounts published.
There was a sense of chivalrous camaraderie between PAF and IAF pilots.. possibly because not too long ago the superiors of these men had flown alongside each other in the RInAF before partition. So their fond memories had transferred over.
there was no lust for blood by any of the personnel and the ethos of war were intact.

So shot down pilots would joke with their counterparts and at moments even play chess and the like.

on one 6th September Tv program there was a war veteran and he said few months prior to 65 war there was an argument between Alam and Rafique at a dinner which aircraft is better in dogfight Hunter or the Sabre Alam was arguing that it isn't the machine its the man in it that matters while Rafique who had flown the Hunter while on deputation with RAF in UK was saying that Sabre is no match for Hunter and rest is history which Alam proved same can be said for Gnat due to its size it was nimble hard to spot might have better turning performance and acceleration than Sabre and certainly has massive fire power with 30mm Aden cannons as compared to Sabre's old 0.50 cals Gnat needs only one hit while sabre needs several hits to down hit and some luck. Old generation fighters can take down a generation ahead fighters even F-22 has been downed in mock dogfights by F-16s, F-18s and even by a T-38 it depends only on luck what pilots do at the right time that's all. A subsonic jet with no missiles poor acceleration can down a MiG-21 its the luck what maneuver pilot executed MiG had a good chance with its faster acceleration to get out of gun range of Sabre but MiG pilot didn't managed and got shot downed. It all depends upon luck and training.

Those PAF pilots were badass... I don't know how they make them today, but judging from my interactions with one here, I can totally imagine these pilots going against the enemy at all odds.

Sorry to burst your bubble but its the gun camera of a mirage-3 of israeli air force mig-21 kill......see the similarity in the crosswire of the mirage and even though paf operated mirages there is no report of even an encounter with a mig let alone a kill....

If our air force failed in 1971, we would have lost the war.

Oh really, Pakistan didn"t have much of an air force in east Pakistan. What ever the victory rats had was because of treason of Bengalees. I really think that 1 is to 12 ratio was not a victory. We were middle of a civil war. The cowardly back stabbed us.

We did not back stab America? did we?

Well there is everything right in love and war.
