Phantoms were everywhere from South Vietnam to Gulf war.But heard unlike other interceptors of their time these were designed with no internal cannons why so???

Interesting story; the way today the arm chair analysts claim that there is no substantial possibility for WVR combat left, at the time of F-4's conception many like them claimed that since the advent of AA missiles the gun/cannon on an aircraft had been rendered obsolete and useless. Surprise surprise, come the Vietnam war and they were all chewing their own lips. The lesson was learnt and many different gun pods were then used as a stopgap until redesigned internal-gun models entered service.

You can clearly see one of the gun pods used on the centerline hardpoint below,

But didnt those mounted cannons reduce performance and as far as I know combat showed that these were inaccurate too.
But still it was an ace of 20th century.

They indeed were. The pods weren't used out of want but out of need until the internal-gun models came along. It was either mount the pod or risk, most probably, finding your self a sitting duck in a close-in encounter after having let loose all your missiles (which weren't very reliable or accurate themselves).

As far as the bold part is concerned, well you know who rights the history. So it wouldn't be hard to make us all forget of this stupid little mistake they made and had to live by for a little while. Lost quite a few planes because of this.
