Congratulation to all fellow members, it is the begining of a new era for PN!

regards!

First pic is a chinese Type 053H3 (Jiangwei II), not an F22P: apart from hull differences, there is a tell-tale twin 37mm mounting just behind the HQ7 launcher.

Still, nice pics. :cheers::wave:

F-22P Frigate arrives from China:
Talks on with Germany, US for submarines and frigates

Karachi, Sunday, September 13, 2009: Pakistan is likely to sign a multi-million-dollar deal with Germany and other countries, most probably the US, for the acquisition of at least four submarines and the same number of multipurpose ships by the end of 2010, as the first F-22P Frigate of Pakistan Navy (PN) "PNS Zulfiquar" arrived at Karachi Harbour here Saturday, from China under the management of transfer of technology.

According to sources, PN was negotiating with Germany the acquisition of three to four Type 214 submarines, besides searching the international markets in US, UK or any other country for some multi-purpose ships, frigates or destroyers, by the end of next year to upgrade its defence fleet.

"Negotiations are on with Germany, while a deal for some multipurpose ships is also expected by the end of next year with the US, UK or any other country which comes up with an attractive offer," they added.

Moreover, a spokesman of PN told Business Recorder that China had transferred the manufacturing technology of F-22P Frigate to its all-weather friend, Pakistan, as the vessel, "PNS Zulfiquar ", arrived in Pakistan amid an ongoing naval exercise in the Arabian Sea.

"The Frigate came from China under the management of transfer of technology," said Commodore Salman Ali while talking to Business Recorder. He said with a "keel laying" or "steel cutting" ceremony for building the Sword Class "4th F-22P Frigate" at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) in March 2009, Pakistan had started using the Chinese technology.

According to sources, 4th F-22P Frigate being constructed by KSEW would have 2,920 tonnes displacement, 123.2 meter length overall, 13.8 meter breadth, 3.76 meter draft, 29 and 16 knots respective maximum and cruising speed, 4,000 nautical miles range, Z-9EC type helicopters and a capacity to accommodate at least 204 personnel.

They said the "war time" role of the frigate would include long range surface to surface strikes, an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) stand off capability, air defence and interdiction of hostile targets. During the peacetime the vessel would guard the country's exclusive economic zone, combat the power projects in the area of interest, contribute to international security through UN peacekeeping operations and take part in search and rescue and flag showing/maritime diplomacy, they said.

According to sources F-22P Frigate would be equipped with a main 76mm gun, C-802 SSM, FM-90 SAM, TCU 42A type Torpedo Tubes, Close-in-Weapon System (CIWS), depth charges, sensors, like surface, air and navigational radars and trackers, RDC-32 type rockets and electronic support and counter measures (ESM/ECM) systems.

According to Commodore Salman the frigate under construction at KSEW and which would be ready by 2013 was "identical" to that of the PNS Zulfiquar and two others being built at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai in terms of technological and defence features.

Meanwhile, an ISPR (Navy) statement said the F-22P Frigate was welcomed by the PN surface and aviation units busy in war-games in the Arabian Sea. PNS Zulfiquar, the first of the series of four ships being constructed in collaboration with China, also participated in its very first naval exercise which was witnessed by Commander Pakistan Fleet, Rear Admiral Asif Sandila, it added.

The second and the third ship are also nearing completion and expected to be handed over to Pakistan in the first and third quarter of 2010. F-22P frigate, a Sword Class Ship equipped with long range surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, has a displacement of 3,000 tonnes and carries Anti Submarine Z-9EC helicopters. The first batch of two helicopters has already arrived in Pakistan. Formal induction ceremony of the ship in PN Fleet would be held in the third week of this month, the statement said.

Sir,

Over here---the prefered mode of conversation is english----.

The answer to your question at this stage is---the difference would be miniscule---they won't even feel the 'hump'.

For detail answer--you do the research and then post it over here.

We need between 12--20 of the ships of this kind to make our mark.

First Sword Class Frigate Arrives In Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The Pakistan Navy's first Sword/F-22P class frigate arrived in Karachi on Sept. 13.

According to a press release from the Pakistan navy, before entering Karachi Port the frigate undertook its first exercise with other ships and aerial assets of the fleet in the Arabian Sea, all under the watchful gaze of Rear Adm. Asif Sandila, commander of the Pakistan fleet.

PNS Zulfiquar, a modification of the Type-53H3 design, was constructed at Shanghai's Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard and was commissioned on July 30 this year. Two other ships of the class have also been constructed at the shipyard and will sail for Pakistan in the third quarter of next year.

The fourth ship is currently undergoing construction in Karachi under a transfer of technology deal. The steel cutting ceremony for the so-far unnamed ship took place in March this year, and it is expected to join the fleet by 2013.

The class is armed with an all-Chinese weapons fit consisting of a 76.2mm main gun, developed from the Russian AK-176M; eight C-802/CSS-N-8 Saccade anti-ship missiles; an eight-round FM-90, which is an improved variant of the HQ-7, itself a copy of the Thomson-CSF Crotale; two hangar-top Type-730 30mm CIWS units; RDC-32 anti-submarine rockets; and two triple ET-52C torpedo tubes. A single Harbin Z-9EC ASW helicopter is also embarked, which provides over-the-horizon targeting for the C-802 anti-ship missiles. According to the navy, two Z-9EC helicopters have already arrived in Pakistan.

The arrival of PNS Zulfiquar marks the first time in Pakistan's history in which it has received a new-build major frontline warship. To date all acquisitions have been surplus ships mainly from the U.S. and United Kingdom. The navy's frontline fleet currently consists of six aging ex-Royal Navy Type-21 frigates of 1970s vintage, three of which are fitted with Chinese LY-60N SAM armament, and the remainder with Boeing RGM-84A Harpoon anti-ship missiles due to space and top weight limitations. That makes the 3144-ton Sword class frigates considerably more versatile.

PNS Zulfiquar is expected to be formally accepted by the navy this coming week.

More required but it is good PN went for four in backdrop of out economy and top of that PN will test these and may go for more in future based on data collected by extensive testing of these ships.

.
for time being we will have to move ahead with four F22p and six OPH class if they do arrive. the major project once we are done with the F22p is to go four four more new frigates which are intended to be slightly heavier class. chines Type 54 is a choice. in other then chines equipment we may well see PN going for turkish Miligem class coverttes and that will indedd be a great move as these are really high tech coverttes. another possibility, though sounds a bit unlikely can be of miligem class figates, the TF2000.
however for time being we will have to manage with these F22p which are not a below average ship by any means,,
it is the first new platform inducted in pakistan navy since the organizations birth!!

regards!

AA is talking about milgem corvette while you are referring to missile boat the MRTP-33.

. .
so the question is by which time we will be having those
corvettes and missile boats with us

PN already has MRTP-33 in its service but i do not know of the exact figure but most probably 4 by the end of this year and hopefully 4 more by the end of 2011. As for the milgem.. Pakistan has signed MOU with Turkey for the purchase of 4 Milgem with a 10 year program.. i think the 10 years has to do with credit payment and hopefully by the end of 2016-17 PN will have 4..
