I agree with you he was being humble and that's a good thing. There is a huge culture difference in Europe compared with the subcontinent.

We will frown if our leaders drive around in expensive cars/planes, show signs of wealth or act above and special. We expect our leaders to be public servants and just normal. In the subcontinent they expect leaders to be high and mighty and royal and any ideas of 'public servant' is frowned upon. Differing attitudes toward what leaders should be like.
