Eurofighter is produced by a consortium of four European nations, each with different foreign policies and different attitudes and tolerances to arms exports, Pakistan Air Force cannot rely on them as single supplier which will not embargo/stop sales of any part.

Who screwed who ? As far as I remember France stopped the defense sales to Pakistan in 2011 hoping to land Rafale and other defense deals with India.

I think " fear of sanctions " would be the word---. If such is the case---then it is a public or fan boy perception---for air force---there are no sanctions in the future.

as soon as another window opens up, pakistan should try to pick up as many f-16s
think of it like the iranian f-14 issue, have a large number, and if need be cannabilize some to allow the majority to keep flying

4. buy all the support equipement to allow all the latest training and maintaince to be done in pakistan (i.e. upgrade the mirage rebuild/JF-17 production factory to be able to do major repairs on the f-16s; similar to the turkish f-16 factory)

and get all this as quickly as possible within the small window of a few years that us allows arms sales

if the air force needs 26 squadrons of 17 planes each, and 14-15 squadrons will be the JF-17, and there is currently already 4-4.5 squadrons of f-16 in the fleet, the PAF needs 8 more squadrons of advanced 4+ gen fighters

getting 2.5-3 more squadrons of F-16s and 5 squadrons of J-10Bs (85 fighters) would prove a decent mix and balance the risk with induction of advanced Chinese 4+ gen fighters (this mix can be tweaked based on availability and price)

250 JF-17 (as long as the design is upgraded to take on agile fourth gen fighters)

this should be a good enough mix for the next 15 years till the PAK-FA and J-31 become options for the IAF and PAF respectively

Hi,

Pakistan needs a 550 aircraft air force----. It also needs at least 2 sqdrns of heavy aircraft. All new aircraft need to be equipped with aesa. Paf needs to find ways to acquire off bore sight missiles---.

This aircraft is only designed for Pakistan and only for Pakistan.. Pakistani air force assumed that is what they needed and that is what they got--. The Chinese needs and requirements were not in consideration or that of any other nation. For that reason---they did not develop a 2 seater aircraft either initially.

It is only in the later stages, after interest in the aircraft was shown that Pakistan asked china to develop a 2 seater as well.

To Pakistani readers---it shows you how dumb and stupid Pakistan air force hierarchy is ---it is replacing mirages and F 7's with this JF 17 and mirages they have and F 7's they have---some of them are also are in 2 seat version as well.

I mean to say---is there any limit to the stupidity of this organization aka PAF.

In the current scenario---until and unless it don't have aesa and off bore sight missiles capability---it will be severly handicapped---. Aesa will give it a massive strike capability way out of proportion of its size.

The J-10B and new J-10C with Russian AL-31FN III or WS-10B turbofan engine are AESA fighters that Pakistan can manufacture under license replacing JF-17 at PAC.

USA built 100% of its parts including the engines. China is still dependent on Russia for its engines. The engine issue has dogged JF-17 from the beginning. The J-10 and J-16 still rely on Russian engines. Pakistan would have to get Russian approval for AL-31FN III engines for J-10 and J-16.
