Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

Unpopular or not, your opinion in this matter is correct and one that I agree with, Sir.

That remains to be seen, block I was already obviously not going to sell, most people already knew this, but block II-III may be a different story.

The entire system needs to mature before nations consider it as a platform that's worth buying. With news coming out that Sri Lanka and Argentina considering buying the planes, the curse may soon be lifted.

If the Chinese considered this a failure, they wouldn't be developing a 2 seat variant of the fighter jet, which is set to roll out by 2015-16.

Then again, you could completely be correct and this entire platform may end up as a failure.

Let me rephrase myself, because I may not have been clear enough.

This entire platform may end up as a failure as an export fighter.

The jf-17 export potential will always be limited by the politicized nature of arms procurement. The Egyptians settled on peace with Israel and were beneficiaries of a large force of f-16s, the Israelis themselves were gifted a few after they agreed to stay out of the first gulf war; Pakistan inducted f-16s as the Americans needed an ally against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Saudis spent a comical amount of money on US arms after the first Gulf War. In short, procurement of arms by nations often mirror their diplomatic standing in the wider realm of geopolitics. The collapse of the Soviet Union allowed the West to consolidate their standing among lesser nations, while simultaneously gaining a monopoly over the armament needs of said nations. The Chinese find themselves trying to fight against what is now institutionalized bias against their arms industry.

If the jf-17 is to have any chance of success as an exportable entity, it is then limited to nations that aren't aligned with the Western powers. The nations the Americans and the like have not found important enough or have active hostility towards. Both types of nations present Pakistan and by extension China with a potentially major marketing problem. In the same vain that Soviet/Russian aircraft have horrific reputations, supplying the jf-17 to a nation with nary the capabilities and experience present in the PAF, could completely destroy any further export potential and the domestic confidence in the fighter. PAF does not have the kind of money or resources required to setup a whole new doctrine and training for another nation's air force, leaving the jf-17 at the mercy of pilots that may have no business flying it and maintenance crews with not the slightest clue on how to maintain it long term. Doing business with nations hostile to the US would put China directly in competition with the Americans. A place China is not, at least today, equipped to handle. Nations that don't necessarily have the kind of funds to procure Western aircraft or diplomatic clout to benefit from American aid are the kind of target market that can do more damage than good to the cause of the jf-17. A nation that is short on money could easily sell of a jf-17 to benefit from a monetary perspective or an even greater diplomatic and political one. Pakistan's adversaries are not short on funds and could easily procure the one trump card we have left. The unexposed jf-17 is an advantage in a potential war that will be far greater than most people realize, since its exact capabilities are unknown to all those who are a threat to the PAF. Selling it to nations that might easily pawn it off to the highest bidder puts, what is sensitive technology by Pakistani standards, in the hands of our biggest adversaries.

The potential market of the jf-17 is then by default, limited to nations with limited resources and even less experience with this kind of aircraft. Traditional allies of Pakistan are too far in the American camp that Pakistani itself comfortably once called home, and they will keep feeding the American arms industry with billions in order to appease the US. For those who do not believe China will have a big say in where the jf-17 can and cannot be sold to must realize the Communist nature of the nation's government means no corporation is technically private. This may have been a joint venture that didn't include the Chinese Airforce, but the owner of the Chinese portion of the investment is the same government that runs the air force. The export potential of this project is a reflection of China's place in the global arena, which is hardly impressive at this point in time. It may be smarter for the PAF to oppose Chinese efforts to export it and enjoy this aircraft and keep it's capabilities to themselves. An unpopular opinion I'm sure, but the military industry has never conformed to the laws of economics so profit and loss in dollar terms isn't relevant. Maintaining strategic surprise with an unexposed fighter is profit enough.

Dear Brother, I agree with that part that PAC and CAC should try to secure at least the JF-17 to just PAF but I think selling it to countries like Jordan, Yemen, Oman and may be to Malaysia will not going to be a bad idea at all.

I think PAC can market its Super Mushak and K-8 well. Again I would say that PAC should try to work on other aircraft like Beech aircraft and Super King ones that will have a good market and are used for training and in military for surveillance....

Both Oman and Malaysia have good ties with India from a military perspective. The Jordanian Airforce has F-16s and are allied with the Americans. That leaves Yemen as a potential operator.

Argentine officials confirm joint-production talks over China's FC-1 fighter

Officials from Argentine aerospace company Fabrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA) told IHS Jane's at the 2013 Paris Air Show they have had multiple discussions with Chinese officials over potential co-production of the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) FC-1/JF-17 multirole combat aircraft.

Discussions are far from concluded, with FAdeA officials saying "technology transfer" issues remain a sticking point. Nonetheless, the discussions are the first formal effort that could lead to the co-production of a modern Chinese fighter in Latin America. FAdeA officials said the co-produced FC-1 could be called the 'Pulqui-III', recalling FAdeA's Pulqui-II, Latin America's first swept wing jet fighter, which was designed by Germany's Kurt Tank for the government of Juan Peron.

I am sure that it will composite along with many goodies inside as Block-II JF-17 are supposed to be produce on mass scale 100 JF-17 Block-IIs along with dual seat are just numbers along with 50 Dual seats for ADT for CSS too but expectation might go up too...

Countries express interest in Pak-China's JF-17 Thunder

BEIJING: Many countries around the world are keen on obtaining JF-17 Thunder fighter jet jointly developed by Pakistan and China, said a senior officer of the Pakistan Air Force on Sunday.
“We’ve been getting inquiries and expressions of interest for the JF-17 Thunder from many countries in the Middle East, Africa and from as far as South America,” Air Marshal Sohail Gul Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, told China Daily.
Pakistan has had the privilege of showcasing the fighter plane twice in China’s International Airshow held bi-annually in Zhuhai.
The JF-17 Thunder or the FC-1 Fierce Dragon as it’s known in China is a third-generation multipurpose combat jet co-developed by Aviation Industry Corp of China and the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC).
PAC is in charge of manufacturing and maintaining the Pakistan Air Force’s aircraft back home.
“During my foreign visits, almost everyone I met asked me about the plane and many countries said they want to join the project,” Khan said.
The JF-17 is an “extremely capable aircraft” and its maneuverability and avionics are excellent, he added.
Air Vice-Marshal Javaid Ahmed, chief director of the JF-17 project, added to the assertion. “The JF-17 is one of our top lightweight fighters, comparable to any advanced aircraft in the Pakistan Air Force.”
The Complex has already produced more than 40 JF-17s, he said adding that the collaborative project between China and Pakistan on the aircraft is still underway with technicians from both the countries focusing on upgrading the weapons and avionics.
Khan said the Pakistan Air Force may also take part in the development of other aircrafts in the future.
His remarks came shortly after six JF-17 Thunder fighter jets escorted the Boeing 747 with Premier Li Keqiang on board, who arrived in Pakistan for a two-day visit on Wednesday.
In a telephonic interview with China Daily, Wing Commander Ronald Afzal, leader of Pakistan Air Force’s 16th Squadron said “It’s a great honor for us that our JF-17s were selected to welcome Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.”
“We had handpicked the best pilots in my squadron and trained intensively on escort formation at high altitudes as well as low altitudes one week before Prime Minister Li was to arrive,” Afzal said.
“As its developers, we feel quite privileged to see our planes undertake such an honorable mission and believe that the Pakistan Air Force chose the JF-17 to welcome our premier partly because it has a lot of Chinese elements,” said Yang Wei, the chief designer of the aircraft at the Aviation Industry Corp of China.
Yang’s team will join hands with their Pakistani counterparts to develop future versions of the JF-17, gradually providing the aircraft with partial stealth and aerial refueling capabilities, he said.

Good news for PAF if they can find any Buyer for JF 17 amreca and europe will not let them happy.

Is it possible to some extent that the Block-II JF-17s which we are supposing to have a dual seat will have:
WS-13(100KN)
Composite Air frame
Retractable In Flight Re-fueling Probe
FLIR and IRST(pod under right Air intake) like J-10Bs
Better Avionics
Better range and Payload.

I think PAC is preparing itself to produce about 150 JF-17 for PAF and 50 Dual seats for CSS.
We can just Pray for that.

Also we should also think over producing Super Mushak and K-8 locally.

And also on we should work on their next version too.
