It will take 4-5 years for them to be delivered .this is pretty much case with well established western jet manufacturers..
India signed rafale in 2016 with announcement in 2015 and delivery in march 2020 and looks satsified already just with traning and wants more...

Nigeria reportedly signed in early 2017 ..so why do we expect delivery in 2020 ??.shouldn't be by 2021 or later by standard comparison ...

Further orders might come if positive feedback by ground training and pilot training even before delivery

Possibly related to local demand and Foreign payment schedules? As I remember the Nigerians paid in installments. Since they are re building their airforce and there is a contingent Currently triaining in PAF they seem to be in no hurry either.

Pakistan is gearing up to sell its widely acclaimed JF-17 Thunder fight aircraft to four different countries. Jointly-produced with China, JF-17 Thunder is the pride of Pakistan Air Force’s arsenal, and several countries, including Malaysia, have been eyeing it.


#Pakistan is all set to export JF – 17 Thunder Fighter Jets to 4 countries, reports have revealed.

Pakistan is now eyeing export markets in third countries in India’s neighborhood and among New Delhi’s traditional defence partners in Africa.



Sources reveal that Pakistan is all set to explore the export markets in countries in Indian neighbourhood, alongside wooing several of New Delhi’s traditional defence collaborations across Africa.





JF-17 Thunder Exports
During the Pakistan Army Chief’s visit to Beijing in October, the agenda was dominated by the supplies of the Chinese fighter aircraft and other military components and hardware, which will be exported to other countries.

Sources reveal that Pakistan intends to dispatch batches of the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircrafts to India’s neighbor, Myanmar, and one of New Delhi’s oldest defence partners in Africa, Nigeria. Myanmar has already procured four JF-17 Thunder aircrafts with Chinese assistance, and Pakistan is now gearing up to export the Thunder jets to Malaysia and Azerbaijan.

Sources reveal that additional fighter jets will be procured by Nigeria, which has already bought three JF-17s from Pakistan. Analysts observe that the greatest selling features of JF-17s are their premium quality hardware and affordability.

Pakistan’s purchase to Myanmar gained immense publicity, which encouraged the military complex to seek out other buyers for its JF-17 Thunder jets. In 2018, Pakistan had discussed the prospects of future sales of Azerbaijan and Malaysia, alongside selling additional fighter jets to Nigeria.

Pakistan’s Defence Complex
Pakistan’s collaboration with China and the assistance in terms of technology transfers has allowed the country to manufacture its own military hardware. The JF-17 Thunder is the pivot of Pakistan’s defence strategy.

Sources reveal that Pakistan is increasingly venturing towards manufacturing tanks and other military equipment for its land-based forces with the assistance of technology transfers from China. Senior government officials who discussed the JF-17 Thunder jet sales with the Nikkei Asian Review revealed that since 2018, Pakistan has intensified its bid to export batches of the JF-17 Thunder fighter jets.

The officials say that Pakistan is all set to manufacture the JF-17 Block III, an upgraded version of the JF-17 Thunder, which will be presented in 2020. The JF-17 Bock III will be powered with additional weaponry, new technologies and a much more advanced radar system.

This image appeared in a tweet earlier today listing potential candidates for Malaysia's LCA competition. Here is my layman assessment.

1- Gripen is the most capable but expensive.

2- Tejas hasn't yet had enough operational experience. We have to consider these contracts take years in the planning/approval and more years to actually materialize which would give Tejas time to at least catch some ground on JF17 in operational experience. People may think India is politically at odds with Malaysia due to Dr Mahatir's recent statements on Kashmir, but it would be naive to think that it has ruled Tejas out. India has way more cultural ties with Malaysia than Pakistan and their trade is also significant. A barter deal is quite possible and both Malaysia and India are smart when it comes to trade deals.

3- FA-50 and a couple of others may be considered light attack aircraft but rest are super light and more suited as trainers. FA-50 has an inoffensive (the guy she told you not to worry about kind of) profile and could be the dark horse in this race.

^^ All 3 of these jets use engines of American sourced engines which may make them more durable/reliable options but then anything using US IP has the looming risk of sanctions down its service life, a risk brains at RMAF would or at least should be cognizant of.

4- JF17 has a good balanced profile, enough operational experience, some tangible, verifiable bullet points in its resume, production capacity and good service record, however Malaysia isn't too fond of the Chinese either. It could either work negatively but if Pakistan can manage to wiggle more control in the production and negotiations, this may actually be an advantage as in using its influence over Chinese to have them not interfere other than assist technically while dealing with Malaysia. Detractors say RMAF isn't too fond of the RD33 on its Migs, I haven't come across any clear evidence on that but with JF17, they'd at least know the engine well, better than any other option.

5- Remaining options are super light jets more suited to be trainers. Let's hope it swings the way of Pakistan!

I am not sure how much RMAF is tired of the RD33 engine on their Mig29s and how much Malaysia in general is willing to overcome its reluctance towards anything Chinese due to its recent political/strategic overtures but JF17 seems a fairly good option for them. We have to be realistic.

Do you know why Malaysia buys Russian hardware/aircraft? Cos he can't use western weapon which prohibit them to Target whoever they want. Chinese military hardware has no restriction and Dr.M hate Israel/ US to core. He would prefer partner Chinese than American.

Due to the recent state of China-Malaysia fiscal and trade relationship that is so skewed in favor of China, Malaysia has landed in huge Chinese debt and they have even considered cancelling huge trade (not necessarily defense) deals. I understand they LCA is a strategic need regardless of the fiscal situation so it might not be a deal breaker, but it may just become a factor if China-Malaysia rub off shoulders in the wrong way over the coming months and years.

Dont be fooled by bias media. Malaysian are no idiots. They do know what kind of trade agreement that is beneficial to them. End of the day, nobody forces them to sign those trade deals. Just like how western media keep harping about China trade deal debt-ridden African when its is the western that enslaves and killed many natives in the past.

China always advocate win-win situation. There is not such deal that benefit Chinese only. China could have just bribe dictator money and get deals they want but Chinese always advocate infrastructure becos it will benefits the public and secondly to reduced the exposure of corruption for the public.

The last interview fro pac chairman said one contra order pac portion of aircraft are all complete and other in process as Myanmar ordered fill strength sqn and Nigeria just few assuming its was Nigeria but delivery is dependent on training completion

May be Nigerians are flying their own ac in pak to compete training ?? Since they are not considered delivered so assuming still flying with pac serial and pak flag ?

at least there is an air frame in PAC with different livery than the standard colour scheme for PAF JF-17

lol, strange business. They wont buy it from China cheaper but from USA or Russia or France or Swiden at thrice the price just because they have a trade deficit with China ?
