Expo Pakistan 2013

The once great Carpet industry of Pakistan is the one that is massively effected by the security situation in the KPK and Baluchistan province.

Hand made carpets of Pakistan are one of the most high value products that our medium scale industry produces but since the carpet designs are unique and each article is different from the other one, it is something customer prefer to chose/select themselves manually. It is not like you send design by e-mail and book an order. The European customers prefer to visit the display, select there articles and then buy and book for destination.

With the ongoing insurgency problems in KPK and Baluchistan, this industry have seen major decline in customers and is struggling to keep its footing strong. Peshawar that was once house to 2000 plus carpet looms do not have much running at this moment. I hope once the situation improves, this can again become one of our best export products earning valuable foreign exchange.

The Expo Pakistan presented a nice platform for carpet manufacturers to display there product in a safe zone and attracted major clients. It proved to be best business area in this trade fair.

Also in Hall 2 there were marble sector display stalls. Pakistani marble industry is a fast growing trade sector exporting around 80 to 100 million worth of marble and granite annually. It failed to capture the opportunity of multiplying this sector by seizing on the massive boom in construction activities in Middle east and Saudi Arabia due to domestic problems and security issues. The exhibition like Expo Pakistan 2013 provided a nice launch pad and the sector saw good business activity during the trade fair. As per TDAP debriefing meetings, the marble sector was the second most active sector during the trade fair.
