warhead (klub-s)got exploded, that's what caused the bigger damage.
There is a very good chance some sailors in the aft sections of the submarine could have survived the blast. If they had successfully sealed off their section, then there could be enough air to survive for a few days. So there is a very, very good chance for survivors.
When the torpedoes on the Kursk exploded, many sailors survived for days in a sealed off section of the submarine. Of course, the Kilo is much smaller and therefore more susceptible to blast damage, but there is definitely hope.
Must keep looking for survivors as soon as it is safe to approach the submarine.
If the damage to Sindhurakshak was accidental then damage to Sindhuratna was man-made having been parked close to another Sub.
Even if this happens to be normal procedure in other countries as well , time has come to review this procedure. Damage to another sub could have been avoided if it had been docked afar . We can't undo what has happened but hopefully prevent repetition of these mistakes. This is major blow to Indian Navy . Such loss is not acceptable even in war time .
Everyone knows when it comes to maintenance our record is not very good ! Time to buckle up !!!
Agree 100%; but were these N-Warheads???
Can't say as the video is showing many explosion coming from near by locations....
Wait and see as reports say submarine also exploded and 3rd one is damaged; later they will say 3rd one is also damaged too.
Space should be the last constrain as far as safe docking of subs is concerned . Especially when you have too little of these and too precious to lose . Losing Sub to such domestic accidents is worse than losing it in enemy action !
Full statement by the Indian Navy : This is the full statement by the Indian Navy: An explosion resulting in a major fire took place on board INS Sindhurakshak, a Kilo class submarine of the Indian Navy, shortly after midnight on 14 August 2013.
Fire tenders from the Naval Dockyard as well as the Mumbai Fire Brigade were immediately pressed into action.
However, due to as yet unknown damage suffered as a result of the explosion, the submarine has submerged at her berth with only a portion visible above the surface.
About 18 persons were on board the submarine at the time of the accident and efforts are on to ascertain the safety of the personnel and salvage of the submarine. A Board of Inquiry is being instituted to investigate into the causes of the accident

Submarines stand close in other countries too.. Like in Pakistan and also in U.K. India should check with its tech and maintenance procedures..
nope its single dear with security level-1
Such a dumb observation. This was a submarine alongside so all the hatches would be open. When you are at sea like the Kursk participating in an exercise all compartments will be sealed. Men are dead and what now the Navy must come clean is whether it was one submarine gone or two.
I would rather believe Navy's official statement. since official statement does not mention involvement of Second sub or ship , we should wait for further news before speading unconfirmed reports .
Defence minister Mr AK Antony will make statement in Parliament in the afternoon . That will throw some more light .
No you are wrong. All submarine go to a special isolated berth to take on their armaments and then set sail. Once back all missiles are removed and then it goes to a normal berth.
