ISLAMABAD: Pakistan can establish diplomatic relations with Israel if the latter moves towards peace process and a free Palestinian state comes into being.
This was said by foreign office spokesperson Ms Tasneem Aslam in weekly press briefing here Monday.
On peace keeping forces, she said decision to dispatch forces to Lebanon will be taken after taking into account ground realities adding that troops are not being sent there at present. No policy has so far been formulated till now on this count. We are not going to become part of peace keeping forces presently. All the reports published in this connection are baseless and unfounded, she added.
To a question, she said that militancy and extremism are not on rise in Pakistan. All the reports in this connection are incorrect. " We imposed ban on militant groups and took several more steps to curb extremism and terrorism.
Regarding Sir Creek issue, the spokesperson said the experts of Pakistan and India were to meet on August, 23-24 in Islamabad but India has not informed us so far about its delegation.
On president Musharraf’s visit to US she said no such decision has been taken so far. This will be informed to all whenever such decision is taken.
Responding to a question the spokesperson said President General Pervez Musharraf had made it clear in his interview with Indian magazine that Pakistani intelligence agencies are not involved in bomb blasts in India. Such allegations should not be leveled.
President Musharraf had talked of mindset that such allegations be not leveled without evidence, she remarked.
Pakistan had proposed that Kashmiris from both sides of LoC should meet each other and we are agreed on enhancing contacts from across the LoC. However, Kashmiris are complaining that procedure in place in India on crossing LoC is difficult, she underlined. We want India simplifies this process and people should be allowed to move under the arrangement in force.
The spokesperson said cooperation is underway in several sectors including defence with China. Work is in progress on many joint ventures. Defence agreements are signed and some have been renewed.
The spokeswoman told that King Abdullah of Jordan is reaching here today (Tuesday) on his visit to Pakistan. The Middle East issue will be discussed with him.
She informed that NATO delegation is currently in Islamabad. Talks will be held with the delegations in regard to treaty on provision of assistance to Afghanistan. We are maintaining close relations with Afghanistan. We want peace and stability there. We are playing our role in this regard and it is in our national interest.
She told that there are no reports with us about attacks on foreigners. We are talking to our high commissioner about the travel advisory issued by Australia.
To a question she said no proposal is under consideration for talks between intelligence agencies of Pakistan and India. We have repeatedly said if India has any evidence it should provide and we would cooperate. But India is not providing. Therefore, we will not tolerate baseless charges.
She pointed out restrictions have been imposed on Pakistani diplomats in India to move outside New Delhi. They have to obtain prior permission two weeks ahead in this respect. India has slapped such restrictions on our high commissioner there. Talks are underway on withdrawal of restrictions on movement outside the capital.
She told that Indian high commissioner in Pakistan is allowed to move to Murree and Rawalpindi despite the fact these two cities are outside the capital. But our high commissioner in India is facing such restrictions.
Replying to a question she said that several media reports on London plane plot are baseless. We can not compromise on investigations. We want to reach the bottom of this conspiracy so that no aspect is omitted. All the concerned countries and institutions are in the process of investigations. The final picture has not come before us. We will inform media when it comes.
She went on to say that Muti ur Rehman the prime accused involved in assassination attempt on life of President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has not been arrested. All such reports are unfounded.
We are not accusing Afghan government of harbouring Al-Qaeda leaders. However we have reports about Al-Qaeda militants presence inside Afghanistan close to borders. Al-Qaeda is no more in Pakistan and its key leaders have been captured here, she told.
