Pakistan should adopt a strategy to reduce its land forces and increase its air power capability, as being done by other countries of the world.

The advice was given by former vice-chief of air staff and founder of Pakistani aircraft JF-17 Thunder Air Marshal (retired) Shahid Lateef at a seminar entitled “Pakistan`s problems and their solutions” held here at TECH Club on Sunday.

He also said that Pakistan should portray its image as a peaceful country instead of being seen as a `militant state`.

Mr Lateef said though US had termed JF-17 Thunder project a “paper project”, his 15-member team successfully completed the initiative within a record time of two-and-a-half years. He said Pakistan should strengthen its relations with China instead of depending on the US which had never been a reliable friend.

He said Pakistan had been spending precious foreign exchange on the purchase of expensive `nuts and bolts` of military equipment bought on the terms and conditions of US and other western powers.

pak is not in a position to reduce its land forces.pak is in the need of its land forces greater than ever.we need army both on the eastern n western fronts so how can we reduce land forces?

we should make land forces more efficient with making certain doctrine in order to increase combat capability. Air power is vital as shown in recent wars Desert storm,Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya that with air power you can soften up the enemy defences in order to allow ground troops to go in.

Ah! A breath of fresh air at last from a Vice Chief who talks a lot of sense!

Thats exactly what we doing modernizing Air power and Naval force.

we should Increase Both Land and Airforce more Important air naval Force we far back in these forces if compare our self with other countries Specially Naval Force and naval air wig

I agree with AVM 100% that Air force must have higher priority than Army in Pakistan's over all defence strategy.

I cannot be substitute for other . when you are fighting enemy two side how can anybody think about reducing army ? army as well as air force both need to modernize as well as increases if you want to win in the battle .

in any future full scale conflict air force n missiles will be the spearhead for any country.army is imp to defend own territory n to capture that of the enemy but all major strategic battles will be fought with missiles n air force so pak must modernize its air force as quickly as possible but in the present condition we cant reduce army as we have hostile neighbors n two sides.but there is an urgent requirement to improve the training n combat capability of the army

Why are we bringing in the U.S? Didn't we all here that it will become a third world country by 2032? We should waive U.S goodbye and move on. No one is stuck with U.S. except our leaders. Anyways, we should keep both the air force and the army strong. If we have a strong air force, then our army will become impoten* Yes the future is all about technologies and robots but we must not forget that those machines have become useless over the Afghan wars.
