Eurocopter seals first new civil helicopter sale in Bangladesh

Bangladesh helicopter operator R&R Aviation has ordered two Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopters configured for the emergency medical services (EMS) role.

The first aircraft will be delivered in September this year and the second in the first half of 2013, Eurocopter said in a statement. It added that the R&R deal is Eurocopter's first sale of new civil helicopters in Bangladesh.

"The Eurocopter light and medium range of helicopters are very popular as they are optimally designed for use in emergency medical services," said Bernhard Brenner, CEO of Eurocopter South East Asia.

"We are delighted to have R&R as our first civil helicopter customer in Bangladesh, and it is even more gratifying that our aircraft will be deployed for humanitarian support," he added. "We are committed to providing R&R with our utmost service to ensure success in their missions."

In the EMS configuration, the EC130 B4 can accommodate one stretcher and two attendants, with large doors allowing for the easy loading and unloading of patients, and good access for medical personnel.

An agreement was signed with R&R Aviation on the last day of the Singapore Airshow for two brand new Eurocopter EC130 B4, marking Eurocopter’s breakthrough into the Bangladeshi market with its first new civil helicopter sale. This achievement capped Eurocopter’s successful outing at the Airshow this year, where it also inked deals for four new helicopters with other customers in the Asia region.

The two EC130 B4 helicopters will be R&R’s first purchase of Eurocopter aircraft; this deal also marks a momentous breakthrough for Eurocopter in the Bangladesh civil helicopter market. To be delivered in September this year and first half of 2013 respectively, the two rotary-wing aircraft will be used primarily for emergency medical services, and can be re-configured for corporate passenger transport when the need arises.

The EC130 B4 has an exceptional cabin size which can accommodate 1 stretcher and 2 medical attendants. The wide unobstructed cabin with large doors allows easy loading and unloading of patients and rapid access for medical personnel. The extremely low internal noise level and the flat cabin floor also offer a suitable environment to install fragile and bulky medical equipment. In corporate transport configuration, it can seat up to seven passengers, offering a panoramic view for all at optimum comfort.

Eurocopter signed deals for a total of six new helicopters at the Singapore Airshow 2012. The six aircraft ranged from the lightest EC120 to the heaviest EC225, to fulfill various types of missions. Added Brenner, “The variety of helicopter types acquired by our customers in Asia reflects the non-homogeneity of this region. Thanks to Eurocopter’s wide-ranging fleet, we are able to offer products that meet the differing needs of our customers.”

Vietnam Helicopter Corporation will use the EC120 as the training aircraft for its newly-created VNH Training Centre; R&R took two EC130 B4 for emergency medical services; Stockwell Investing signed for two units of EC145 T2 for utility missions in Indonesia; and Southern Vietnam Helicopter Corporation invested in its fourth EC225 for offshore operations.

They were also supposed to sell us 2 army helicopter, the deal which was inked with the 44 MBTs. Any idea about that?

Bangladesh receive s delivery of EC130 B4 helicopter | Asian Military Review

Eurocopter makes a breakthrough into the Bangladeshi civil helicopter market with the arrival of the country’s first Eurocopter rotorcraft this year. An EC130 B4 was delivered to R&R Aviation; while an AS350 B3e was showcased to civilian and governmental prospects in a two-day flight demonstration. Both aircraft are light helicopters belonging to Eurocopter’s world renowned Ecureuil family.

Eurocopter delivered its first civil helicopter to R&R Aviation Limited (a concern of Sikder Group) earlier this month – the first of two EC130 B4s that were acquired by the Bangladeshi helicopter operator during the Singapore Airshow last year. To be used primarily for providing emergency medical services (EMS) and humanitarian support, the EC130 B4 can also be reconfigured for air charters, sightseeing tours and aerial observation with a cabin that seats up to eight passengers.
R&R Aviation is the largest private helicopter operator in Bangladesh. Rick Haque Sikder, R&R Aviation Chairman explained, “We are very proud to be the first Eurocopter operator in Bangladesh. This high performance aircraft will enable us to develop our commercial and medical services for the people of Bangladesh. We are looking forward to receiving our second EC130 B4 and we hope that this is the beginning of a long term partnership between R&R Aviation and Eurocopter, with more helicopters to come.”
Recognizing the potential of light helicopters in this market, Eurocopter also brought in an AS350 B3e for a two-day flight demonstration in Dhaka. The demonstration showcased the AS350 B3e’s capabilities to the helicopter pilots community, business leaders, senior officers from governmental entities and civil aviation authorities.
“We see a promising future for the demand and deployment of helicopters in both the civil and governmental markets in Bangladesh,” said Eurocopter South East Asia President, Eric Toussaint. “With its advanced technology and versatility, the AS350 B3e is able to answer most of the country’s requirements for a variety of missions, including passenger transport, EMS, aerial work, law enforcement, disaster management, etc.”
The aircraft was well-received by the participants with very positive feedback on the speed and level of comfort. Commenting on his flight experience, Brigadier General Abdullah Al Azhar, commander of the ad hoc army aviation group, who is also a qualified pilot of Eurocopter’s medium, twin-engined AS365 N3+ Dauphin, noted that “the rate of climb and manoeuvrability of the AS350 B3e was impressive, surpassing our expectations of a single-engine aircraft.”
The AS350 B3e used for the flight demonstration was on its way to Kathmandu, Nepal, to be delivered to Shree Airlines, the biggest helicopter operator in Nepal. Providing services for United Nations humanitarian missions for rations distribution and passenger transport around the world, Shree Airlines is increasing its fleet to expand their activities for EMS and tourism in Nepal.
Both the EC130 B4 and AS350 B3e are members of Eurocopter’s rugged and proven Ecureuil family. The EC130 B4 offers one of the most spacious cabins in its class, and is also the quietest helicopter in the market: its Fenestron® shrouded tail rotor and automatic variable rotor speed control result in a significantly reduced external sound level. The AS350 B3e is the latest member of the AS350 high-performance family, which is not only versatile and safe, but also offers competitive acquisition and maintenance costs. It excels in hot conditions and very high altitudes, and broke records when a standard production aircraft landed on the top of Mount Everest in 2005.
Today, around 5,350 Ecureuils have been delivered in 130 countries to some 1,600 operators. These aircraft have accumulated close to 25 million flight hours.

Buying one or two helicopters for civilian use is a great achievement for Bangladesh. There was a time when helis were used in this country by PIA as a method of transport during late 1960s in Pakistan time. But, the service stopped after one or two bird-induced accidents that killed people. So, the current induction will be a re-start.

Bangladesh already use helis for civilian use.

Doesn't have dual use capability. Bummer. Any way a good buy for 2.1 mn $$ (as per wiki). Need more of these for disaster relief programmes and may be border patrols.

Mate, this list is not entirely correct. Actual scenario is Bangladesh Army Aviation operates 5 Helicopter of their own. And when required they also uses Air force's helicopter:

Bangladesh Army Aviation Inventory of Helicopters: 3 Bell 206 L-4 Long Ranger IV, 2 Eurocopter AS365 N3+ Dauphin

Bangladesh Air Force Inventory of Helicopters: 18 Mil Mi-171, 6 Mil Mi-171SH, 2 Mil Mi-171V-5, 14 Bell UH-1N Twin Huey, 4 Bell 206L-4 Long Ranger IV.

Bangladesh Air Force Helicopters (Reserve): 8 Mil Mi-8, 2 Bell-205 (I do not know their state)
