Erdoğan, Putin talks on S-400 missile system sale have been positive, officials confirm

Turkish officials confirmed Wednesday that the talks between Turkey and Russia on the sale of S-400 missile defense systems have been positive, while also noting that negotiations as regards to the details of the deal are ongoing.

Earlier in the day, Russian newspaper Izvestia reported that talks have advanced to a stage where two parties are trying to negotiate the price range and financing for the missile system.

Official sources told Daily Sabah that the talks were progressing in a positive manner, and negotiations are now centered around the details of the deal.

The sale of the system was also discussed during the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow during Erdoğan's visit to Russia March 10.

Putin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also confirmed to Izvestia that both leaders were interested in the missile sale.

The deal would be the largest of its kind between Turkey and Russia.

This is different, Turkey wanted ToT to be included in the T-Loramids deal, so far only Chinese agreed on the terms but Turkey decided not to buy because of political reasons.
Now Turkey wants develop own system which will need decades but needs off the shelf system for short term solution, this deal might actually materialize.

First of all, i don't believe Russians are gonna sell their most capable air defense missile to a NATO country.

But, you need to understand that buying off the shelf is much more different than the previous tender.

Erdogan is playing those cards ONLY for the incoming referundum... And let's be Honest, since Honesty is what made us "intellegent being"...

Turkey is searching and pushing where she can, to see the limit of each other, Turkey is blocked in Syria, bc she couldn't impose herself on the ground, by NOT fully backing ES, and today she's paying it... (Don't bring any escuse..ERdogan failed his plans for Syria...at least for now... Don't bring me the "It's ok, Tukey will be ok with whoever take the north syria, at one CONDITION it's not PKK/YPG/PYD... " Don't fool yourself, Turkey tho' that she can take all the north by backing ES/Rebels with the minimum... and the result... well we have it today...trapped) Erdogan Hates ASSad and do not put Putin in higest estime either, it's just he can't do otherwise today...

Turkey need EVERY partner around the world to keep "making money" , it's the basic of economy... ANd YES Turkey need Europe THE most, since almost 60% of her "EXPORT" is to Europe and around 30 to Asia and 10% others...

OFC Turkey can cooperate with other country..but you can't "CREATE" a new import/export economy to elsewhere in a blink of an eye neither in few years... Thing like that need decades... .

Turkey suffer from inside problems ( terro- refugees etc...) and growing unemployenment, this year it's a record high for Turkey.

Erdogan may be interesting for few... but in the meantime, playing the headless chicken could backfire on him and every Turkish citizen.

Previously NATO had an objection on acquiring Chinese missile system, now they will pressurize Turkey not to have Russian system. Turkey is now far developed and progressive, may delink itself from NATO and remain neutral to take the advantages of some technological acquisitions TOT from non NATO countries if NATO fails to fulfil its need.
