Wrong, it depends on the motive of the crime.

Sure that way even dowry deaths are not gender crime. It is crime of greed, nothing to do with the women, she is just incidental. If she had money, there would have been no death. Anyway all dowry is paid by the men of the house, it is the fathers and brothers who work their a$$ off to be able to pay the dowry for their daughters and sisters.

Situation in India bad? I do not really see sullen women in India all that much nor women on Prozac and other anti-depressants. If 25% of American women are on anti-depressants, then I would say they are certainly worse off than Indian women. I do not see single women raising 3 kids by 3 different fathers in India, women doing 3 jobs to just pay rent and put some food on the table.

Yeah aborting a child because she will become huge financial burden in a society where there is no social security safety net is certainly more immoral than aborting a child because it will spoil ones figure or spoil their social life.

I see women and men smile a whole lot in India than other countries and much better placed to handle stressors. There is a family support structure intact in India by and large which takes care of these stresses.

What is dowry? Instead of giving a share of familial property to the girl, parents used to send off the girl with a dowry (an economic arrangement). In the West if there is property, a girl gets her share too. Just different kind of arrangement.

While I am not advocating dowry, I do not really see it as much of an issue. It is mostly a financial security provided by the family for the girl. Most cases it is nothing more than a few grams of gold and some home appliances. In West too, the cost of marriage is borne by the bride's family. Dowry has perhaps resulted in the single largest savings for women in India, the result of which is the almost 40,000 tons of gold in India. If even a fraction of this gold was to be monetized and securitized in India, that will be the end of the dollar based reserve system in the world. India by the virtue of it would be the richest country in the world.

Those who harass for dowry are simply unethical criminals, no different than others who commit crime for greed. There are provisions for that and whole families can be jailed without bail for it on mere complaint. So I do not really know what it is you are complaining about. If there is crime in India, it does not become more gross than crime anywhere else in the world.

It is not hard to "prove" since all central banks in the world have been on buying spree of Gold. They are not doing it for its looks. For the rest you need to know something about economics to know why a consumption based economy like USA is in debt of 25 trillion dollar and has to resort to fraud the rest of the world to maintain its clout.
