Don't mind me saying this dude, but the West does act holier than thou many a time. Their civilization sometimes does give off this air that any concept becomes cool and fashionable to follow only once they start espousing it.

For example, will they take it lying down if our media and papers daily start running one case of teenage pregnancy, it's complications and it's aftermath? It too can be shown as a huge societal failure, with the right choice of wordings.

They actually owe this 'gender equality' to the two World Wars. Had all their men not marched off into battles and their Women not taken up jobs traditionally held by men, their society too would have harboured similar discriminatory attitudes towards Women that they now like to judge us upon.

Situation in India bad? I do not really see sullen women in India all that much nor women on Prozac and other anti-depressants. If 25% of American women are on anti-depressants, then I would say they are certainly worse off than Indian women. I do not see single women raising 3 kids by 3 different fathers in India, women doing 3 jobs to just pay rent and put some food on the table.

Every deed in US is monetized, stuff one would not dare calling a job is called a job there. Sure monetize all the acts of kindness, children taking care of old people in their own homes instead of sending them off to old age homes, taking care of your relatives children instead of hiring an "au pair" or sending the child at daycare, working in the family fields without a pay, sure monetize all of that and you will get an Indian economy that is worth double the US economy.
