Electricity situation in Asia

Hi all,

For many days now the newspapers have been filled with news of electricity problems, both in India as well as in Pakistan. So, I thought of opening a thread where members can discuss the electicity problems in their areas and suggest steps they would like their respective goverments to take.

I would like to encourage my fellow members to keep following things in mind when posting:

(1) Please mention the city, state and country of your current residence and mention how many hours of power cuts you face.

(2) Refrain from personal comments as this is not a thread to prove that some are better off than others.

(3) Suggest steps necessary for improvement.

(4) This thread is specially for people "residing" in asian counties, irrespective of their "nationality".

(5) If you have to report some success story regarding improvement in situation with due efforts by people and local authorities, then you are most welcome.

No doubt...Mumbai is one of a few lucky cities in India, but not all areas in Mumbai have 24x7. Where exactly do you live there?

I have one flat in Central Mumbai and another in the Eastern suburbs, both with 24 x 7 power supply.

Although Navi Mumbai face power cuts sometimes.

When i was in Qufu couty Shandong Province of China in 2007, I met a power cut from 00：30-02：00 for 1.5 hours(that night I was in a Internet bar), and the power company post notice one week before power cut for Line maintenance. After then I haven't meet power cut, no matter when I stay in Dalian Shenyang Shandong Hunan atc

I am in Karachi & having 3 hours of load shedding with no load shedding on sundays....

& IMO Pakistan's problem is due to circullar debt & delayed payments due to corruption....

In Pune India, no powercut daily but once in weektime for some maintainence purpose

But my native hometown satara Maharastra, loadshedding 2-3 hr daily.

"Cities" are much less likely to have this problem than the rural areas, I imagine.

Convert all street lights to LED lights... Singapore is doing this well.

LED lights are expensive. I don't know how much is that going to be feasible for big countries. May be for few cities.

Don't you think that over dependence on oil based power plants is also a problem?

1 hour powercut daily in my city . But that doesn't affects me , cause usually its 4 am in the morning when power cuts

exactly, i wonder why with having world's lasgest coal reserves in thar we are still depandent on oil & Gas bad politics in the world...

So.....Akhilesh Yadav has made sure that at least Lucknow in Utter Pradesh gets almost uninterrupted power supply.
