Im afraid i have to agree with you on here. Seems Erdogan has been a huge failure for Turkey, he is taking this one prosperous/peaceful advanced country(i have been there myself, it looked far more advanced/mordern than even India) into a wrong direction. He has turned Turkeys policy of zero problems with all neighbours, to problems with all neighbours. Lool. As the syrian conflict and iraq instability continue and as islamist jihadists continue to flock to Turkey to fight their Jihad in Syria expect Turkey to continue to be even more unstable. Im not even talking about all the hundreds of thousands of refugees(isis sympathisers involved) flocking to turkey as a result.
In short his policies have been a total diaaster for the country. I think he shouldn't have gotten involved in the syrian crisis in the first place, it wasnt in Turkeys interests to do so. Funny enough many Turks still support/vote for him.
He really is a smart strong man though, since i dont understand how he is still so popular despite all his obvious failures.
There are already debates that this whole military operation is a show by Erdogan to decrease the supprt base and the votes of Kurdish dominated HDP in early elections. It's all speculation, but honestly, knowing Erdogan, nothing is strange for him. He is the Ahmadinejad of Turkey, a populist that won't waste a minute to start a parody show.
But if the above speculation is true, this news shows his game is backfiring:
