Egyptians Vote on New Constitution in Referendum

Propaganda. Nothing but propaganda. Egypt is a dictatorship, and the dictator wishes to appear elected.

The wonderful profusion of pictures on this thread is rather desperate in its propagandist appeal.

To quote a non-MB source from a Guardian article:
“It's a fake process,” said Mohamed el-Baqr, a senior official at Strong Egypt, which opposed Morsi's constitution and later called for his early departure. “The choice on the ballot paper is effectively between a box for yes and a box for handcuffs.”

Dear OP, we Pakistanis have been through all this multiple times. So please do not expect us to be swayed by your energetic & misplaced efforts. We know who calls the shots. We know who is managing the process. Egyptians might have been bludgeoned into submission, and many may be tired of instability, but there is no mistaking dictatorship. There is no fig leaf big enough to mask this nakedness. A hundred such referendums would not suffice.

But carry on, nonetheless. Do your duty.

That would be true but only if this were a referendum on whether there should have been a coup or if president Adly Mansour should stay in his position. Unfortunately for you, its a referendum on constitutional amendments. Although one which will legitimise what happened on the 3rd of July.

The wonderful profusion of pictures on this thread is rather desperate in its propagandist appeal.

And if the constitutional amendments are passed with a record turn out (or even one surpassing that of 2012) and with a large percentage of the vote, what will you say then?

"The wonderful profusion of pictures" is a reflection of Egyptian society, whether the people in those pictures have misplaced beliefs or ideas is none of your concern nor will it affect what they hold dear.

To quote a non-MB source from a Guardian article:

Its always Pakistani nationals, then again this is PDF. You should have been paying attention long before the coup and the 25th of January revolution.

The Strong Egypt party was set up by the moderate Islamist Abdelminim Aboulfottouh who was a former Muslim Brotherhood member. The only reason he is still around is because like all good politicians he has no backbone, one second he supports the coup and the next he condemns it, yet one thing remains constant and that is his sympathy with the MB and his Islamist ideology (even though he ditched them before the coup to save his skin, to then make up again and then shun them when they were declared a terrorist organisation).

“It's a fake process,” said Mohamed el-Baqr, a senior official at Strong Egypt, which opposed Morsi's constitution and later called for his early departure. “The choice on the ballot paper is effectively between a box for yes and a box for handcuffs.”

No one has been arrested for voting no, they may do that freely.

Dear OP, we Pakistanis have been through all this multiple times.
You are in no position to be giving advice on how to transition from dictatorship through revolution and to a real democratic process.

The Pakistani experience is totally different to that of the Egyptian one and if anything its worse, Pakistan does not have a sophisticated democratic process, your democracy ends at the ballot box. There is no rule of the people there, you have MP's that don't even visit their constituencies throughout their terms.

So please do not expect us to be swayed by your energetic & misplaced efforts.

You are not supposed to be swayed by anyone's efforts. Who are you for us to even acknowledge or speak to? are you Egyptian? No. Do you have any relation to Egypt at all? No. Are you at least Arab? No.

You are a dude on the internet 3 and half thousand miles away who knows nothing about Egypt and jumped on an internet fad because some people he ideologically agreed with were brutally murdered (well their supporters anyway the actual leadership ran for the borders).

We know who calls the shots. We know who is managing the process

Well its certainly not the Muslim Brotherhood or you for that matter. The military and transitional government are managing the process, does the majority of Egypt have any qualms with that? No. So why should we care if you do? We don't.

Who's calling the shots in Pakistan? It certainly isn't the electorate. There's more people power in Egypt now than there is in a supposedly democratic Pakistan, and you know it. Do you think Elsisi would feel safe if the whole country protested against him? No. Any elected representative will be quaking since they know what can happen to them.

Egyptians might have been bludgeoned into submission, and many may be tired of instability, but there is no mistaking dictatorship. There is no fig leaf big enough to mask this nakedness. A hundred such referendums would not suffice.

A hundred referendums wouldn't suffice, no. But you know what will both presidential and parliamentary elections, then we will have just as much if not more democracy than you, wippeee.

But carry on, nonetheless. Do your duty.

Do one.

P.S

This is coming from someone who is against the amended constitution and someone who is vehemently against Abdulfattah Elsisi running for presidency (he should be on trial). Te7ak Hamra.

Hey, if living with $hitty dictators rocks your boat, I have no problem. Arabs happily live under dictators, enjoy cribbing about being backward, and are glad to be butt of jokes cracked by those who live in more mature and advanced societies. Good to hear that you can come up with excuses to stay the way you are. I am happy for you. Just do not ever complain about Sisi, do not ever vote against him, do not ever grow a beard, and for your sake, I hope you never have to compare your mighty Arab republic with puny European ones.

So then, what is your point? Do you think that anyone can achieve peace without talking about it? Oh wait, your types do not wish for peace. War is your objective, since you find it hard to talk. You are more comfortable lashing out at others with gibberish.

Why do all Islamists repeat the same lies and acquisitions ? You guys have no creativity whatsoever. Its like you guys have been breastfed from the same cow. It is an Egyptian expression you don't have to understand it.

@agentny17 @Mahmoud_EGY @Frogman

Guys, it will be a off-topic question but what is the perception of Turkey by Egyptians right now.

We were enjoying close relations a few years ago but Erdogan managed to destroy it. What is the situation now ?
Not good at all actually!! People have no problem with the Turkish people actually. It is more about your government.

None of this is news to us Pakistanis. We've been there and we've dealt with stuff like this before.

Yes, I am an Islamist of sorts, but I have my own mind and I do not belong to any MB or JI type organization, neither would I want to do so. I hate to see Muslim countries on the bottom of most social, economic, and developmental benchmarks. The easiest and most straight-forward things to do are to establish constitutional representative government that is answerable to its citizenry. Living under dictators freezes society into Iraq under Saddam, Egypt under Mubarak, and Saudi Arabia under Al-Saud family. None of these countries could ever get anywhere under these people.

You need to wake up brother. If you do not wish for Arabs to be laughed at, then establish constitutional representative governments, even if you have to put up with Islamists, or socialists, or any other such people. The point is to begin a journey away from one-man shows. You should be able to change leaders once every few years if you wish. That is the main point, not that you should have Islamists or liberals in power for ever. No group should be in power for more than a decade, Islamist or otherwise.

@chat Bamu

Maybe you should stop trolling in this thread and mind your own business? Let the Egyptians and other Arabs short their own problems out.

With all due respect Pakistan has a lot of problems, arguably bigger than Egypt, and Pakistan need all the help it can get from people like you and other citizens. With all due respect.

Why go against the Egyptian people that never hurt Pakistan?

Islamists don't believe in democracy. If you don't understand that, its your problem. Egyptians understand that, it took us 3 years to understand that, but we finally got there. Stick to your country

The process is monitored by many international and local organizations. Some people need to come back to reality, honestly. It is a different time. The ship has sailed. Stop living in the past.
