Egypt is in the process of purchasing a type-71 Amphibious landing craft for the transport and landing of tanks, armored personnel carriers and soldiers, as well as the possibility and possibility of buying the ZBD05 Amphibious Infantry Vehicles, military official website Military.China.com reported.

This comes after Egypt bought the two Amphibious attack ships helicopters carrying French "Mistral" (LHD Landing Helicopter Dock), which confirmed the need for Egypt's (LPD) Landing Platform Dock, which belongs to the Type-071.

The Type-071 is a 19,000-tonne 210-meter-long ship capable of carrying four 13-ton helicopters, 18-tank or 60-armored vehicles and up to 800 troops, with a range of 19,000 km. It is equipped with a 76-mm multi-function AK-176 cannon and four AK-630 Air defense systems against approaching air threats, which is similar to the US Falanx system..

. . . . .
Interesting. Any idea why our Egyptian friends are increasing their amphibious assets?
This is an LPD, they have bought the Mistrals which are LHD.. these two go together in a Navy..

:o: Can anyone confirm this news?
You are provided with 3 different Chinese sources in the first article of the thread..

They all dated back to 2015, if this is really happening, the work should commenced or at least started.

that sounds good but i think it was just interest or a future plan , AAW i think is more priority for egy. navy

What a beast of a ship. Would love to see at least 6 of these bad larry's in the EGY navy. I remember hearing about this a couple of years ago but never heard of any concrete signing of any contract or anything like that, although some of the deals between China and Egypt have been on the low-down and we didn't find out about them until the systems showed up in Egypt or we saw exercising in China with Egyptian troops using Chinese bought military equipment (the APC is one example and the WingLoong was also something that suddenly showed up one day.) TBH, I doubt this actually went through but I hope I'm wrong. These ships are monsters!

If you look at some of the recent news, besides having the largest gas fields in the Mediterranean and now starting an exploration venture with Cyprus while carrying out many naval exercises with Greece, there are some tensions building up in that area that we need to be prepared for. There is also tension on the southeast border on Egypt and Sudan as well as the traffic in the newly renovated and double-laned split of the Suez Canal that has created a surge in traffic through the canal. So those 3 major areas (Mediterranean, Southeast and Suez Canal) are how the Egyptian navy will be divided. Northern fleet and Southern. 3 new naval bases being built also so the 2 Mistrals are being divided up based on the northern and southern and each one will need tremendous support.

They all dated back to 2015, if this is really happening, the work should commenced or at least started.

How long do you think the building of one of these ships would take?

There are not many AAW ships out there for sale, even France has just two -2- for its entire Navy.. apart from the exorbitant prices.. But I am quite sure that Egypt will get some in the near future.. since destroyers firepower is being integrated on smaller frigate size ships..
Maybe Egypt got a good price and a credit line for these Chinese Type 071 LPDs.. I guess two of them will be a good start..

In 2015 China had 4 ships of this type and was still building 2.. So let's say they were finished by 2016-17.. it means they have started work on the Egyptian ones just last year.. We know that China is fast in building ships of all kind, but these are 19 000 ton ships that take some time to build..even if the tempo is fast..

Egypt need 2-4 type 052D destroyers which will dominate East Mediterranean Sea
Egypt will be looking at those too.. the fact is we almost know nothing about the Chinese-Egyptian deals.. apart from some small rumours here and there.. and only know of them with certainty when they appear in Egypt or when China talks about some of them openly after they began to be operational in Egypt..

The Type 052D class is referred as Chinese Aegis. It is known in the West as Luyang III class. It is a follow-on to the previous Type 052C (Luyang II) class. A total of 12 Type 052D destroyers are being built at a rapid pace for the Chinese Navy by two different shipyards. The first vessel entered service in 2014.

The Type 052D class is among the World's biggest and most capable destroyers. It follows the lines of the previous Type 052C class, but is larger and has reduced radar cross-section. Also the new warships have improved weaponry and pack a heavier punch. These guided missile destroyers are equipped with advanced radar and two 32-cell Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) for various missiles. Still though these are general-purpose destroyers, rather than specializes anti-air warfare vessels. It seems that these warships have capabilities similar to those of the US Arleigh Burke class general-purpose destroyers.

It looks like the phased array radar of the Type 052D is a further development of the Type 052C radar. The new radar is larger and presumably has more transceivers. This radar was first observed in 2012 on a Bi Sheng weaponry trial ship. In function it is similar to the US SPY-1 Aegis radar. It can detect air targets at significant ranges and track numerous targets simultaneously. It looks like that it can even detect and track ballistic missiles, though it it is unknown it these ships carry any anti-ballistic missiles in their weaponry. Some sources report that the Type 052D class warships are also fitted with a newest Chinese data link. This secure tactical data system is used for communication with other naval assets.

The two 32-cell VLS can hold and launch different types of missiles. These include surface-to-air missiles, cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine missiles. It differs from the VLS system used on the previous Type 052C class and resembles a US Navy's Mk.41 VLS. The Type 052D class has superior offensive capabilities. In these terms it even outperforms many Western destroyers.

These Chinese destroyers have a single 130 mm main gun. The previous Type 052C class ships have a smaller 100 mm main gun. There is also a HHQ-10 launcher, packed with short-range air defense missiles.

Last ditch defense is provided by a seven-barreled 30 mm Close-In Weapon System (CIWS). It seems that starting with the 9th hull destroyers will be fitted with improved eleven-barreled 30 mm CIWS. It can fire at a rare of a whooping 10 000 rounds per minute. It is claimed that it can intercept incoming anti-ship missiles up to a speed of Mach 4 with a 96% success rate. So far these eleven-barreled CIWS were fitted on Chinese Liaoning aircraft carrier and latest Type 054A class frigates.

For anti-submarine warfare there are torpedo tubes and anti-submarine rocket launchers.

The Type 052D class warships have a hangar for a single helicopter. These destroyers can accommodate a Kamov Ka-28 (export version of the Ka-27) or Harbin Z-9C. However most other warships of similar size and displacement typically can accommodate two helicopters.

The Type 052D class warships are operated by 280 crew members.

These destroyers have a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) type propulsion system with two gas turbines and two diesel engines. Diesels are used for economical low-speed cruising, while the gas turbines kick in when high speed cruising is required. Maximum speed is 30 knots.

The Type 052D class will be succeeded by the future Type 055 class destroyers. The lead ship of the Type 055 class is already being constructed.

They might replace the ageing Arleigh Burke destroyers in the Egyptian Navy in the future..if not by Type 055..

Take previous ship as example, roughly takes 2 years to commenced.

That's not too bad to get things going. I was wondering what timeline was for the building process itself.

Although these 071s are great for their purpose, I think the Egyptian navy does need to thicken its frigates and destroyers fleet first, I agree. More ship-borne firepower. They were looking at the Russian Buyan corvettes just last year.
