Mokhtar added that the foreign partner would have a restricted role in the review and approval of what has been implemented after the completion of the design stages , pointing out that the development of "MisrSat-2" will coincide with the requirements required for it to be used in several areas which include spatial, demographic, agricultural and industrial research.

This satellite will be used to complement/replace "MisrSat-1".
Egypt will launch 3 satellites in the coming years "MisrSat-2" in 2016, "DesertSat" in 2017, and an unnamed Russian satellite at an unknown date. Although the language used suggests this satellite is strictly for civilian use the reality is that it will primarily serve a military purpose since its the armed forces which will both fund and operate the satellite.
