Economic Power---Military Power---Or Nuc Power

@MastanKhan , you've outdone yourself on this one.

Whenever any question of Pakistan's security dilemma comes into question, everyone shouts "We got Nukes!". That has little sway in the 21st century. In the beginning of cyber warfare, economic warfare, covert (false flag) operations, nonstate actors. Nuclear weapons offer little to a sly state.

It's only a matter of time before the chips turn, and the world views Pakistan's only deterrence one that would be better without being under it's control.

Simple answer is that Pakistanis have a inferiority complex. Nuclear weapons and their result upon use allow for a sense of pyrrhic victory. Except that the pyrrhic is absent in their minds.

Pakistan's deterrence is 1 dimensional. All resting upon it's Nuclear warheads.

Take a look at Singapore, the Israel of the ASEAN. It has strategic alliances with every power there is. All without nuclear weapons. Indonesia, Malaysia, hell probably Thailand can easily take it over militarily but the result from the powers to be is the deterrence.

This all stems from the 2nd and 3rd wars with India, Pakistan's sense of being abandoned when it itself didn't know the languages of treaties it was so eager to sign it's name too.

And your view about why Pakistanis are attacking you on well thought out post?

Only when Pakistan acquires credible conventional deterrence will it stop using the nuclear threat. The fact of the matter is every Pakistani realizes Pakistan doesn't - hence the last resort becomes the first resort.

Pakistan has a belligerent neighbor who threatens quick strikes in its territory if it doesn't follow its whims. It's got an internal insurgency that flares up every now and then and slips over to the other side - deteriorating the situation further. And then it has rabid dogs to the west. In such a scenario, with the Pakistani leadership barely holding things together, it's a natural response to threaten to use disproportionate response to any aggression.

So until Pakistan becomes economically important to the world, the threat of nuclear response will continue.

The Pak mil establishment back in the 60s had strong ties with the China/US/Iran(under sha), had one of the best economies in south asia, had a great military and many others, the problem came that after the 65 and 71 war they thought that having all this didn't ensure there security ignoring there own stupidity. (allot of failures were down to poor planning).
, thats probrably why they relying on the nuclear deterrant whilst retaining the same stupidity, in all honesty you need a balance of everything good foreign relations, a decent military, good social fabric, nuclear weapons, good economy and most importantly good intelligence/planning,

Hi,

It was not the wars that created the problem---it was Bhutto---who nationalized all the industry and private schools and destroyed the industrial foundations of Pakistan for good.

Now that is a humongous paradox; ain't it?

I would like to refer to the president of most powerful country in the world Mr. George W. Bush. Before going to Iraq war to topple Saddam in post 9/11 scenario, he mentioned that we may use nukes if necessary. Last but not the least, have you forgot Hiroshima and Nagasaki. When wars break out then any country who will feel he is going down WILL resort to nuclear weapons and no amount of pacts and laws will come into equation.

Furthermore, the nuclear deterrent is for the time being as Pakistan is building is conventional capabilities. In time, war doctrines shall change and our conventional forces will be enough to ward off any aggression.

.
I see it this way: Become economically strong -> build up conventional deterrence -> Nuclear weapon rhetoric dies down.

Nice in theory, but poor in reality. Actually you've even got it all completely backwards!!!!
To become economically strong, you need to to get the outside world in to invest heavily in your growth. That will only happen in a country that remains peaceful with its people coming through as quiet, peaceful and industrious people. But with folks chanting "Nukes, Nukes, Nukes" all the time in the back-drop of "Bangs here and there" and baying for someone else's blood...... fat chance of that happening.

.
Economic power BRINGS you REAL power ...

look at

China
Japan
Germany

And now

Indoneasia
Singopore
Malayasia

DARE I SAY INDIA

ITS ALL ABOUT GDP
