The Azerbaijan International Financial Centre (AIFC) Is situated in the capital city Baku, with a population of 9 million people, Baku is the economic hub of the oil-rich country, Azerbaijan.

We were tasked to develop a master plan for the regeneration and the modernisation of Baku with a vision of becoming a regional hub for investment.

Within six months a master plan was developed and the project is due to commence Q1 2016

Azerbaijan to launch sewage treatment project

Azerbaijani water operator Azersu, British Biwater, and its local partner Nobel Oil signed a memorandum of cooperation on November 10 as part of preparations to build a wastewater treatment plant.

The document was inked by Head of the Azersu Gorkhmaz Huseynov, Biwater’s Executive Director Adrien White, and Nobel Oil’s Executive Director Michael Ring.

The memorandum covers the feasibility study for the Lokbatan and Shuvalan Wastewater Treatment Plants by Biwater, Nobel Oil, and other monitoring agencies.

Huseynov addressed the event, noting that Azerbaijan was cooperating closely with international organizations to reconstruct water supply and sewage systems.

“We have broad cooperation perspectives with Biwater, which has extensive experience in wastewater treatment. Once the Lokbatan and Shuvalan wastewater treatment plants are constructed, wastewater collected in the Absheron peninsula will be discharged into these plants. In addition, tunnel and microtunnel sewage collectors will also be constructed under the project. I think this project is of great benefit to our environment,” Huseynov stated.

Biwater’s executive director, for his part, noted that the company was interested in cooperating on a wastewater treatment project with Azerbaijan.

“We are monitoring the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems in the country, and we intend to complete this project in a short time," he remarked.

The UK Export Finance company proposed allocating $800 million for the construction of water treatment facilities and sewers in Absheron.

Biwater, formed in 1968, currently operates in more than 30 countries, but has overall experience in some 90 countries. The company designs, builds, operates, and maintains water companies, water supplies, and effluent treatment and desalination plants.

Azerbaijan, Turkey to build satellites

Azerbaijan and Turkey will cooperate in building new generation micro- and nano-satellites and telecommunication systems, Azerbaijan's satellite operator Azercosmos reported.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in space industry was signed between Azercosmos, Turkey’s Space Technologies Research Institute and Science Development Foundation under the president of Azerbaijan.

The preliminary agreement on cooperation between the sides in this sphere was signed in May.

The document envisages cooperation in conducting researches in space and astronomy spheres, as well as in studying the Earth’s surface.

Turkey and Azerbaijan will also exchange experience in space technologies, conducting joint researches, taking the advantage of satellite telecommunication systems, etc.

The usage of Azerbaijan’s low-orbit satellite resources will also enable to implement joint projects in the sphere of agriculture.

The sides also agreed to organize joint events dedicated to the use of satellites, conferences, symposia and seminars in this field, training and so on.

Azerbaijan entered the exclusive space club less than two years ago with the launch of the first Azerbaijani telecommunications satellite, Azerspace-1, which provides a variety of services, such as digital television, data transmission, VSAT multi-service networks, and governmental communications. The total cost of the Azerspace-1 project was some $230 million.

Azerspace-1provides highly reliable broadband and broadcast solutions to its customers in Europe, Africa, Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

The satellite also broadcasting a number of Turkish channels.

Currently, Azerbaijani satellite operator Azercosmos operates the AzerSky low-orbit satellite. The launch of the second telecommunication satellite Azerspace-2 is planned in 2017.

Azerspace-2 will be placed in an orbital position of 45 degrees east longitude covering a service area of Europe, South-East Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

NFES issues loans worth $200 million to entrepreneurs

Azerbaijan supports its local entrepreneurs by allocating concessional loans from the National Fund for Entrepreneurship Support (NFES) under the country's Economic Development Ministry.

The Fund issued 210.8 million manats (over $200 million) to 5,690 entrepreneurs from the Ganja-Gazakh economic region for implementation of investment projects.

The forum with the participation of 70 entrepreneurs was held this week to grant concessional loans for investment projects that will help to create over 80 new jobs.

Following the forum, as many as 57 entrepreneurs received concessional loans amounting to 663,000 manats (over $631,000).

The forum participants familiarized with livestock farms of Goranboy region, which was created thanks to NFES financing.

The NFES provides entrepreneurs with loans via authorized banks and non-bank credit organizations.

The NFES was established in 1992 to fund investment projects in different regions of Azerbaijan in order to support national entrepreneurship.

The state budget will provide 100 million manats (over $95 million) to the NFES in 2015.

Additional funds will be sourced from the 130 million manats (over $123 million) worth of loans repaid earlier. Thus, the volume of funds accumulated in the NFES will reach 1.747 billion manats (over $1,664 billion), including state budget allocations totaling 931 million manats (over $887 million) and repaid loans totaling 816.3 million manats (over $777.7 million).

if the massive drop in oil prices had no impact on the project , I doubt anything will
most energy companies stopped their bigger projects due to prices but TANAP is going full speed

we need a pipeline project through Hazar lake between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. We need to end our dependence to Russia completely.

Russia is an unreliable source, they prooved it a couple years ago when they turned off the gas to Europe in the middle of the winter, recent developments make it only worse.

Sure its big but any decreasement will be helpfull, at least better than sitting it out, who knows how long Russia is gonna deliver gas.
With adding Iran to the supplier list the Russian share could be reduced significantly, and by that time the first nuclear plant might be finished, so there are ways, we are dependant on Russian gas today but if we plan for the future we might replace them.

well by 2025 Azerbaijan by itself will be producing 60bcm , Turkish requirements currently stand at 38 bcm potentially rising to 40+ by 2025, Azerbaijan will be providing about half of Turkish requirement with TANAP and rest going to Europe.
