SSNs, not SSBNs. SSBNs are irrelevant to a conventional conflict. I love that the US is wasting a ton of money on SSBNs when its nuclear deterrent is already pretty much impossible to threaten - that's just money cannibalized from other more useful systems. That's what I want the US building: Columbias and Zumwalts. The Columbia class SSBN are already under construction; an order of magnitude more quiet then the Ohios. Where do the Type 096 stand and how to they compare to the Ohios or the Best Russian SSBN? Do they use a pump jet and all electric propulsion? China might have advanced but so has the US. Best to stay humble, this US-China Cold War is going to be a long one. Economics not military might will determine the outcome of this conflict. Wasting too many resources on weapons is part of what dragged the Soviet economy down.
If economics is what will decide this war, then the US is even more hopelessly crushed. The Chinese economy is already larger and will grow much faster until it's multiple times the size of America's. If there's a Soviet Union in this analogy, it isn't China.
