Duterte: US Spec-Ops must leave Mindanao

The chinese r working overtime to give duerte all sort of moral support now. At the end of the day the phil needs to remember that the u.s did kill a lot of phil in the past, but the u.s does not grab any of the phil territory at the moment. The chinese otoh r trying to grab phil territory left n right at the moment.

Does the phil want to be friend with china so they will grab more of your territory or u want to be an ally of the world strongest military who has the capability but does not grab your land? The phil u don't want to be stupid like the viet.
Oh either be friends with a country that didn't kill any of your citizen but still is eating you alive, or be friends with a country that isn't eating you alive but has committed genocide of your people, having killed more than 600.000 of your citizens and are still killing many in some territory of your own country?

What about, you know, "NONE OF THE ABOVE!" as a choice of answer?

One more proof that the Americans are in trouble with their allies. It is getting from bad to worse. The list of disenchanted allies is also getting longer and longer.

Probably because the US failing to provide the benefits; no body is attracted to the US because of its (now apparent non existent) values, but, money.

I just can't imagine how it will be under Mr. Trump, who will be asking for more contribution from host countries to accommodate US soldiers that are already very unpopular among local people due to the widespread violence and rape they bring in.

I like this guy more and more everyday. He is like a gem. China shouldn't spoil the gem by pushing for scarborough shoals now. Everything has a time. Right now what's best for China is to polish this gem and make it more visible in the world.

China can settle for the status quo, for the time being. It all hinges on the developments on the ground.

But, I guess Huangyan Island development will continue as it is already under China's jurisdiction. When China starts actual build-up, the rest will likely be watching from a safe distance.

Chinese was aggressor from north China, had invaded in to Vietnam in the past, you are big thief from long time ago.
Calling other thief? You use low criminal level trick to deceive Pinoy marines going for a meeting only to steal their islet right under their nose? Do you have shame at all by try to call out others?

My Pinoy friend , beware of the Vietnamese thief. They are like serpent, venom and low life animal.

Oh please, the US has given far more to the Philippines than your country has in their time of need.
..Here, for example during the Typhoon Haiyan...
China... donated US$200,000 to the Philippine relief effort.[34] China provided a donation of US $1.4 million worth of relief supplies.[35] China also sent its naval hospital ship Peace.

The U.S. provided:

The United States initially contributed US$20 million in aid in food and relief goods;[19] this was later increased to US$37 million.[20] The official military relief efforts became known as Operation Damayan.[21] Twelve V-22 Ospreys from Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 and Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 were immediately deployed from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Japan to assist in delivering supplies;[22] and the United States Air Force's 36th Contingency Response Group was deployed to assist with the re-opening of the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban.[23] Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel ordered the Pacific Command to deploy vessels, including the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73) and its carrier strike group,[24] to the region and aircraft for search and rescue missions as well as to deliver relief supplies.[2] Other ships in the strike force include the supply ship USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE-10), the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39), the cruisers USS Cowpens (CG-63) and USS Antietam (CG-54), the destroyers USS Lassen (DDG-82) and USS Mustin (DDG-89), the oceanographic survey ship USNS Bowditch (T-AGS-62).[25] and the oiler USNS Yukon (T-AO-202).[26] The hospital ship USNS Mercy (pictured) was also activated.[27] As of November 17, 19 USAF C-130 Hercules transport planes operating out of Clark International Airport (Formerly Clark Air Base) were dedicated to ferrying supplies to and evacuating victims from the region.[28][29] Three C-17 Globemaster III aircraft based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson also flew many airlift flights into Tacloban airport, delivering food, water, and evacuating refugees back to Manila.[30][31] They were also instrumental in bringing in Philippine Army supplies to reopen the Tacloban airport. Three amphibious ships based in Sasebo, Japan, the USS Germantown (LSD-42), the USS Ashland (LSD-48), and the USS Denver (LPD-9) were also deployed and arrived on November 19[32] bringing an additional 1,000 marines to augment the 850 marines already on the ground.[26] The littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS-1) was also deployed to the region on November 18.[26] As of November 22, the US had committed over 13,000 military personnel to the relief effort.

Duterte chose to ignore that, and focus on generation old grievances of which everyone who was part of is dead or has 1 and a half feet in the grave, sounds very Chinese in fact.

Hopefully the Philippines won't become hostile to the US, it would be pretty saddening.

As for the lecturing you speak of, we don't voice our concerns because the Philippines is a former colony, we do it because your president is currently taking the Philippines down a dark path where rule of law is just a word and your constitution means nothing, which endanger's the Philippines' relationship with the US because we value those things in a country.

We voice our concerns with anyone, colony or not. Do you think China was ever a colony of ours? Russia? the UK? Kenya?, Saudi Arabia?

This talk about it happening because of the Philippines being a former colony is an inferiority complex that has to be worked out.

If the Philippines wants to reduce relations with the US (which is what you actually mean when you say you want the Philippines to be self-reliant) That's your country's prerogative, but the move will be reciprocated, and the US will reduce relations with the Philippines as well.

You will have a 'neutral' and self-reliant country for a time, but you won't have the same amount of security. and you won't have much leverage when it comes to China's territorial claims.

Perhaps you don't see that as important, ok then you'll be a Chinese client state and maybe you'll get money and maybe you won't and maybe your fishermen will be allowed to fish at their historic fishing spots and maybe they won't. It will be China's will that decides it, not the Philippines, and you'll be reliant once again.

I'd like to say the Philippines has another option, but you really don't, your navy is in that sad a shape through years of mismanagement and your country has been through years of mismanagement by your government. That's why Duterte was elected in the first place.

Would you even be able to cause losses to the Chinese if they decided they wanted them then and there?

Im being blunt with this, but the Filipinos respect bluntness do they not? Duterte not only needs to balance the accounts, he needs to strengthen your navy, and I don't think China is going to help with that until it has what it wants.
All the aid you mention are just peanuts what's China going to give Pinoy. We don't give much Becos of stupid Aquino. With Duterte ready to embrace China and called US son of the whore.

China can easily build rail, hospital, school and many other infrastructure to really help Philippine progress. Unlike just giving money to top level corrupted officers.

The Southwest Cay was one of the smart tricks Vietnam played on the PH.

The second was the goading of Aquino into the circus court against China.

Vietnam delegate joined the court in case PH side would say something against VN's interests.

@anon45 I don't mean leverage in the military side of things of course. When it comes to China, what matters most is development and bilateral diplomacy rather than confrontation and deterrence.

Why do you think China will allow concessions to the Philippines when doing so would not only enrage the nationalists at home for giving away inviolable Chinese territory, it would leave Chinese trade routes vulnerable in the future should the Filipinos have a change of heart? Democracy is unpredictable that way, and China knows it.

As I said before, China's core interest in the South China sea is to protect its vulnerable trade lanes to keep its economy from being restricted by major maritime powers (in this case its the US, but in the future India could also be a concern)
I don't think China will be content with allowing control of the islands striding those sea lanes to any other power, now matter how weak. Its trade lanes are best protected by itself, and it will secure them as best as it can, the best way being direct control.

At best the Chinese will allow Filipinos to fish in their historical fishing spots under Chinese control, and that is what will probably be offered should the Philippines bare its neck.

Of course in the future it would be used as leverage in interactions with the Philippines should they differ with China on international issues of importance to the Chinese.

I suggest your read the Melian dialogue, its very short but is a good primer on Political realism vs Political idealism.

You are holding out hope while I am holding out facts. This is going to go nowhere.

My point is that if Filipinos are looking for an independent foreign policy then they aren't going to get it without being able to protect themselves.

As it is its simply moving from 1 sphere of influence to another.

No, so much of US lies. The real evil is US who themselves used to be colonised by British instead of understanding the pain of colonization ,went on to colonies another country. Such a shame! :enjoy:

Yep, they invaded and colonized many countries after getting their own independence from a colonizing power even though their founding fathers were strictly against such imperialistic ideals.

USA became a total shame even for its own self.

Really, Duterte resembles Trump more every day with how mixed his signals are. This is aggravating. Is he just being two-faced?

MANILA: The United States said the Philippine government had not officially communicated President Rodrigo Duterte's demand to pull US military advisers out of the rebellion-torn southern Philippines.

Since 2002, up to 600 US advisers have been deployed in the Mindanao region to train troops battling Muslim extremists but their numbers have been scaled down in recent years.

A week after calling US President Barack Obama a "son of a whore", the incendiary leader said Monday (Sep 12) US Special Forces in the region "have to go".

Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay however attempted to downplay Duterte's comments, saying Tuesday they were "in the context of wanting to save the lives of these Americans who might be exposing themselves to unnecessary risk" from militant attacks.

In Washington, the Pentagon and State Department said they had not been officially contacted by Manila about pulling out the remaining advisers, who Yasay said now numbered about 100.

"We will continue to consult closely with our Filipino partners to appropriately tailor our assistance to whatever approach the new administration adopts," Pentagon spokesman Gary Ross said.

State Department spokesman John Kirby also said they were not aware of any official request from the Philippine government.

Yasay, interviewed by Manila's ABS-CBN network, confirmed the allies had not discussed Duterte's demand.

Duterte, 71, has said he is "not a fan" of the United States and on Monday explained his demand by showing pictures of US troops killing Muslims as America took control of its new colony in the early 1900s.

He has said the spat was triggered by State Department criticism of his controversial war on drug crime, which has left about 3,000 people dead since he began his six-year term in July.

Obama has said Duterte must conduct his crime war "the right way", protecting human rights.

Yasay stressed that Duterte's new comments did not signal a shift in policy, and that ties with the US remained strong.

The president only wanted to protect Americans from kidnappings and terrorism as they had become "a very good target", Yasay said.

"There is no shift in so far as our policy is concerned with respect to our close friendship with the Americans."

Yasay, who was heading to Washington for talks, added the Duterte administration would honour existing defence agreements including a 2014 accord giving the US military access to at least five Philippine bases, one of them in Mindanao.

His comments were in sharp contrast to an initial explanation by Duterte spokesman Ernesto Abella, who said the demand "reflects (Duterte's) new direction towards coursing an independent foreign policy".

Im more inclined to believe Yasay is being two-faced at this point than speaking the truth. The Philippines has whipped back and forth with how it says it views its relationship with the US so many times that i'm having whiplash!

Why doesn't China create an international currency and agree with Russia, India, Iran, Turkey, Brazil and a few other countries to start only use that currency for trade among these named countries?

That would equate to like 1/3 of world's economy being saved from USD's inflationary pressure, and US would lose its God-like power of being able to just freeze any transaction in the world or sanction countries affectively.

Random two countries trying to do their trade between each other on gold or any other currency is not functional. It would provide no holdable result in the end. Many big countries should start a union like EZ (Euro Zone) and create a currency for that grouping while still preserving their own national currencies, and then using that new currency as a means of trading internationally among these countries within this group.

Then things could be very easy for these countries to achieve more independence.
