Drone hit may have killed senior al Qaeda leader
Fri, Dec 11 11:49 PM

A U.S. drone strike in northwest Pakistan may have killed a senior leader of al Qaeda but details are still emerging, a U.S. government official said on Friday.

"Nothing has been definitively confirmed, but it's possible that a senior al Qaeda figure has died," said the U.S. official, who declined to be named.

The figure killed was not believed to be either al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden or his No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahri, U.S. officials said.

The strike, which took place sometime in the past week, is part of a stepped-up campaign using pilotless drone aircraft against al Qaeda and Taliban targets in Pakistan under U.S. President Barack Obama.

Pakistan officially objects to the U.S. strikes. It says they violate its sovereignty and stoke public anger, bolstering Islamist support.

Pakistan Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a similar U.S. strike in August.

We do not support not celebrate any attack on the Pakistani soil by bloody bull$hits.. and Americans are not doing wonders by killing one Alqaeda leader after 200 attempts.. assassinating hundreds of innocents and turning their survives against Pakistan. If it is the action against people on Pakistani soil, that MUST be conducted by the Administrative Authority of the country. NO Thanks, No Admiration for such actions when they are done in violation of National Assembly Resolutions. Americans violate Pakistan's Borders first before they kill anybody and thats NOT appreciated, allowed or cherished. God D@M America!

Who care what you think? We will continue with the drone strikes with the co-operation of the Pakistani government. There is no violation if the missions are approved by your military and elected officials. Personally, I can care less about civilian casualties. The more killed the better. :usflag:

Thank you for being mindful and enlightening people of the country with your thoughts. You are not the only American who is being loved for his intellectual and human values. I rather encourage you to share more and let everybody see the bright side of the story.. You will help us understand why Americans are needed to be allied with.

Elected officials is a different debate and very political, while intiating technical debate lets analyse those hell bond missions.
Let's say on average 1.75 attacks/day from last 2 years and at an average of 4 senior alqaeed members dying/day the counts come to be 365x1.75x4= 2555 senior alqaeeda leaders.
To gather accurate intelligence of those 2555 alqaeeda dumb ***** You definately need about 5 intelligence operatives on ground around each senior alqaeeda leader.
this makes it 5x2555=12775 intelligence operatives in north Waziristan.
And to confirn the dead alqaeeda a DNA is required which must be performed before and after shooting the hellfire.
For this purpose some logisitcs operation needed to be placed! so are you running such logisitcs operation with co-operation of Pakistan govt.?
On average alqaeeda leaders head bounty be 5millionUSD it makes 5x2555=12775 millions USD.
So does your co-operative govt. gets any share out of this reward money?

you're not ashamed to say this?

Hussein,

Do you expect sense out of them? Its your fault if you do. Americans are known for what you are reading in his post.. sheer Insanity!

Drone is not an instrument of solution but Problems for Pakistan but Had Americans had common sense, they must not have ended up doing what they did to himself and NATO in Afghanistan.

I am ashamed that AirforePilot said this and especially if he really thinks this. I am sorry for ANY civilian casualties. War brings with it the deaths of innocents. BUT, we should never turn a blind eye to this regrettable fact and should never be so callous as to be indifferent to it, as AirforcePilot seems to be in his post. I am truly sorry for the deaths of innocents while, at the same time, I am angry at the terrorists who make war a necessity.

Al Qaeda Operations Planner Saleh Al-Somali Believed Dead in Drone Strike

By LUIS MARTINEZ and MARTHA RADDATZ, Dec. 11, 2009

The senior al Qaeda operative killed in a drone strike in Pakistan earlier this week was Saleh al-Somali, a major operations planner for the terrorist group, ABC News has learned.

A suspected U.S. drone fired two missiles into an al Qaeda and Taliban sanctuary in a Pakistani region the Afghan border Dec. 8, 2009, killing at least three militants, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

"There are strong indications that senior al Qaeda operations planner Saleh al-Somali has died," a senior U.S. official told ABC News.

Al-Somali was believed killed in a drone strike Tuesday that likely was part of the CIA's continuing program that uses armed Predator drones to target al Qaeda terrorists operating along the lawless tribal areas of western Pakistan that border Afghanistan.

Questions Over Who Was Killed in Drone Strike

Since Tuesday's attack in Pakistan's northern Waziristan region, speculation had run rampant that a senior al Qaeda operative had been killed in the attack.

According to the U.S. official, Saleh al-Somali was responsible for al Qaeda's operations outside of the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and formed part of al Qaeda's senior leadership circle. He is also said to have had "connections with other Pakistan-based extremists."

Al-Somali was engaged in plotting terrorist acts around the world and "given his central role, this probably included plotting attacks against the United States and Europe," the official said.

Al-Somali took operations guidance from senior al Qaeda leaders and "translated it into operational blueprints for prospective terrorist attacks," the official added.

Al-Somali had risen through the ranks of al Qaeda's propaganda operations to become involved in operations planning for the terrorist group. That included working with western al Qaeda recruits upon their arrival into the tribal of areas of Pakistan, the U.S. official said.

The official said that given his ties to the region, al-Somali maintained a relationship with al Qaeda's allies in eastern Africa, particularly the terrorist group al-Shabaab.

The group has been the focal point of U.S. investigations into the recruitment of Somali-Americans for Jihadist activities in East Africa.

No you are not sorry Mr. pretender. You as a Nation d@m care about everyone else on the planet. Where is this cosmetic grief of your visible outside this post, in the real world? When and where did Americans demonstrated against civilian causalities in Afghanistan, Iraq or Pakistan? You never did and you never would. There runs white blood in American bodies, no wonder you guys are hated to this level and hypocritical dual standard keeping Nation deserves it. Now go and wash your face with cold water and get out of this "being good" delusion. See the real face of America but why am I expecting this from somebody who is an American himself.

May have killed? ahhh come on come up with proof this is such a joke

I just want to know who has thanked this Killzardari terrorist guy?
