DRDO test-fires nuclear-capable Shaurya missile - India News - IBNLive

Shaurya, a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface medium range missile, was test-fired from Chandipur-on-sea off the Orissa coast at 2.30 PM on Saturday. The missile with a maximum range of 750 km was test-fired from an underground silo at Integrated Test Range of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Shaurya is being developed for use by both the Army and the Navy, and can carry a warhead of one tonne. The missile is a two stage, solid fueled weapon and can carry conventional as well as nuclear warheads.

Shaurya is 10 metre in length and about half-a-metre in width. It uses solid fuel that gives it a longer service-life and shorter launch time compared to the missiles which use liquid fuel.

As the missile has been canisterised for increased mobility and can be fired from silos, so its development gives India second-strike capability in keeping with the country's states doctrine of no first-use of nuclear weapons.

The last test of Shaurya was conducted in November 2008.

All the people residing within 2 km radius of the testing range were temporarily shifted to a safer spot.

:)

NDTV saying Shaurya tested. I think by Shiv Aroor it is confirmed now, it is success. He will post the video of the test later today.

Shaurya is a hypersonic missile? what kinda a false journalism?

No, the journalists reported are very reliable and have inside info with details. Shaurya is indeed a hypersonic cruise missile.

Only here I heard that it is hypersonic, if true...indeed a good news and first of its kind in the world.

Atleast in my english,a missile with velocity of mach 8-10 is hypersonic. Now why the Shaurya more resembles a cruise missile than a ballistic missile-I have already posted. You may take a look if you want.
REGARDS. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

hmm....4 times saying same means weightage is more.

but it is different from hypersonic engine missiles india will test like brahos 2 and other.

Shaurya travels with hypersonic speeds like any other ballistic missiles. Although it has a flat trajectory like a CM, yet it cannot do terrain hugging and S-manouveurs normally associated with cruise missiles. It is a hybrid missile. For gods sake, stop calling it a cruise missile.

Ballistic missiles are called ballistic missiles because they follow a ballistic trajectory.
Cruise missiles are called cruise missiles because they follow a cruising trajectory.

If Shaurya follows a cruise path how will you call it a hybrid missile? Is there any rule that cruise missiles have to be terrain hugging? Our brahmos is not terrain hugging but a cruise missile. Shaurya has high speed like ballistic missile but it is a cruise missile.
