DRDO to test-fire three missiles from today

Shaurya is a Quasi Ballistic Missile i.e. incorporating features of both Ballistic and Cruise Missiles.

I can't understand why are they terming it as a Cruise Missile?

It does not leave the atmosphere at any part of the time and it is maneuverable even in the end phase. So it is more of a Quasi-cruise missile

again... who ?

quasi-ballistic is the best term to describe it..

Why DRDO disclosing everything ?this news may facilitate Chinese to spying on our missile programs ,such kind of incident happened recently. DRDO better keep their results with them and they can disclose all news at the time of induction.

Let me tell you why-
1.Maximum altitude of Shaurya is 35 km means it never leaves the atmosphere.Even the 150 km range Prithvi 1 has an altitude of over 100 km.
2.Shaurya has a rounded nose-have you ever seen a ballistic missile with a rounded nose????
3.Powered and steerable terminal flight where as ballistic missile's terminal phase is completely free falling.
4.Shaurya follows a flat trajectory unlike a ballistic missile's parabolic trajectory.
5.The terminal velocity of Shaurya is mach 8-10 where as a ballistic missile of its class has terminal velocity of mach 16 or so.
6.The most crucial point, the Shaurya can completely change its course which is beyond the league of ballistic missiles.

That should answer your question.

.I think it's time to decommission Prithvi from the Arsenal.
Bhramos can do the work of Prithvi and is more versatile....What U say ?:what:

Brahmos is not nuclear capable i guess.... but when u count prahaar... I guess we can sell those prithvis to vietnam i must say....

What makes you think they were not spying before and not doing now!!! Spying is common for any country and no need to be alarmed! :)

Omega007 and satish have answered well I want to add another point. Ballistic missiles rarely have all the way thrusts, onboard fuel take them to certain altitude and they reenter atmosphere because of gravity. While Shaurya like a cruise missile has all the way thrusts, till it hits the target and highly maneuverable.

Prithvi is require for short range nuclear capability as mentioned by 'perplexed' also....

1) Prithvi has high accuracy, less than 10 m.
2) India has large number of prithvis.
3) All new prithvis are tested with some new technology. They are like testbed for new guidance, software, navigation, gyros and other sensors.

With Shourya Trials undergoing, i somehow find Brahmos-II useless.. We wanted a hypersonic missile, we got it with unlimited range..
Why waste efforts to develop a 290 Km. range Hypersonic missile..

for prithvis its not always Old is not Gold. We had brahmos but we choose Prahar because of size. Prahar has bigger size so even weight 200 kg bomb the big size bomb can be carried by missile. prithvi is better in that context. it has huge space for bigger different type bomb perhaps including fuelair bombs.
we may test short range like of 300 km range solid fuel prithvi-S (solid).
