Dr.Afia Siddique: News & Updates

Dr. Afia has been cross examined and convicted as a member of Al Qaeda - until proven otherwise under the US Justice system. The Govt of Pakistan is not responsible for her release since she's not classified as a political prisoner.

Well the fact is that she has been wrongfully convicted. Pakistan should help her, if the Govt. of Pakistan can't.

. . .
If the court of law itself is rogue, then it can never be proven. Yet, the fact of her innocence cannot change.
Fact is a relative term. If you support Al-qaeda, it is a fact she is innocent.

.
Dr. Aafia should certainly be released, but DEFINITELY NOT in exchange for the scumbag Dr. Shakil. This is an obvious emotional blackmail tactic. Perpetrate heinous crimes against an innocent, and make unreasonable demands. Classic lowlife tactics. If we give in to their demands today, they will make it a practice in the future as well. We cannot afford to act weak here. This disgusting face of America should be highlighted in front of the entire world and thus pressure applied for her release. I am sure ISI can think of much better ways as well. Where there is a will, there is a way. May Allah Help our sister. Aameen.
100% no prison exchange should be made, but her captivity n ordeal should be highlighted to tarnish the image of America in the entire World!

Fact is a relative term. If you support Al-qaeda, it is a fact she is innocent.

Actually, immediately after her case became public in the early 2000s, the Daily Ummat published a series of investigative reports on her. Now don't just write this off as subpar yellow journalism. Ummat in those days used to be a bold newspaper and some people I know worked for it.

According to those reports, she has been kidnapped from Karachi along with her son. Her ex-husband implicated her in terrorism charges out of sheer spite and malice.

Tell me, WHY would a mother take only one son to Afghanistan? Show me one educated mother who sees any sense in such an endeavor. It baffles the mind that such a bogus charge would be laid.

She hasn't even been charged with terrorism, rather, attempted murder for self defence.

Are you so advanced in your blind worship that the 'rights' of homosexual transvestites are dearer to you than the plight of a Muslim woman? It just strikes me that a crude translation into Urdu of the previous sentence would sound like an ugly verbal attack. In this case, I don't even need to make it up!

If you read the OP, she herself hasn't accepted the charges, and she does not expect justice to be given to her. Now remember this basic principle. As Muslims, we trust the words of fellow Muslims much more than the words of any non-Muslim court of law, much less an evidently biased one.

As Muslims, we are blind and violating basic tenets if we trust the word of Muslims over another of a different religion. It indicates bias in judgement and decision which means we are hypocritical about claiming to stand for what is right. The prophet would not spare his own daughter from the law and homosexuals are irrelevant and basically an aimless emotional tangent; similar ones lead to people being burnt for blasphemy because somehow emotionally we automatically side with the accused rather than step back and see the reality.

As to why a mother would take her only son to Afghanistan? Educated Father's have married their 7 year old daughters to old men for honor let alone religion, educated mother's have forsaken their children to "shrines" in this country. Education means squat; we have a supposed PhD in this country who wants to use Jinns to make energy so I believe that argument of education being an automatic disqualification supporter of terrorism stands hollow.

The daily Ummat may not be a journalistic cesspool but then the early 2000's involved a LOT of kidnappings of Al-Qaeda members by the CIA in liason with the ISI from Karachi including KSM. Nobody cries a tear for him. Aafia Siddiqui was no differrent, her only claim to fame is that she was the first woman we heard of who supported Al-Qaeda.. tons of brides ran to Islamic State ; most of them were either killed or raped by kurds, Syrian Arab Army, Russians etc in that conflict but we have no tears for them? Because we all suddenly agree that those women went to terrorists but somehow Aafia Siddiqui was still pure even after actively supporting Al-Qaeda?

The only reason this woman is worshiped is because Pakistanis love a martyr story and the extremist element in our society painted her as such. The ummat was still staffed by people who bear the same emotional and biased mindset that prevails in Pakistan.
After all, we love to wail about the Palestinians but their main leadership in the PLO supported India in all its existence. We love to talk about brotherhood but it took open hatred and rebellion for some finally to realize the immense damage Afghanistan and Afghans have caused to us.

So the argument that she deserves the benefit of the doubt because she is muslim is inherently unjust and gives the clear impression that Islam isn't a just faith but teaches bias in justice.

Lets look at it the other way. Lets assume that she was innocent and does not support extremism, that somehow she did not run from an abusive marriage and she left her first husband. That somehow she did not scribble notes on a terror attack because Afghans do lie a lot. It still doesn't explain her second marriage to a terrorist?
I mean why did a well educated woman of good judgement as you imply end up with a terrorist? Why?

This thread is not meant to serve debate over Afia Siddique as an al-qaida terrorist or not.We Pakistanis are the most shameless people in this world.American agents like Raymond Davis crush people in Pakistan and then flee to America. Then such third class contractors write books mocking Pakistani nation and justice system and tarnish our image as banana republic.

When some masses amongst us try to speak for our rights, then we hear argument from left-wing.Stop hiding your face like Ostrich! The fact is that we cannot take any measures to do anything for Dr.Afia so we satisfy ourselves by blindly believing what US is saying.I do not trust what west or US says because I know that they use soft power to promote their agenda. On the other hand, our jounalists (such as CEO of DAWN) are only morons who speak ill of Pakistan in international shows when given chance.I am not against west but I say that we should learn from west and develop sense of dignity. It is better to accept limitation of our capacity and to start working to expand it in whatever way possibility comes rather than fooling ourselves and believe what west says. This trend and response is not new: when we can't face the truth, we make stories.
Once again, this thread is not meant for argument as if Afia was criminal or not.The purpose of this thread is to keep track record of developing story about Dr.Afia.Just post news over here not debate.

KARACHI : Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia here Sunday said that they has no confirmed information about the life and health of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, adding the government of Pakistan, ministry of foreign affairs and US jail officials have not provided them any information about Dr Aafia, as yet. The prisoner status online for Aafia is still as Alive.

In a statement here, she said despite hectic efforts of the family, no response has been received from Pakistani and the US officials.
She said that the family for last two years has no contact with Dr Aafia, and are this not in a position to confirm or deny agonising painful rumours of Aafia’s martyrdom on social media.

She appealed to the people to not believe in rumors and pray Allah, the Almighty, to give heeds to our rulers so that they take serious efforts for safe return and repatriation of the daughter of the nation.
Dr Fowzia said in case of any change in prisoner status it is the US protocol to inform the family first and no such information has been received. Later, the consulate or embassy of the concerned person is informed, they too have not contacted us. She said that on contact to the Pakistani consul the in the US, an email reply of Consul Aesha Farooqi to her lawyer is received that she could be able to confirm anything on Monday, which means another 24 hours of devastation for the Nation. According to Geneva convention such news has be be disclosed immediately to the family and consulate.

She said after the rumors about the life of Dr Aafia Siddiqui on social media thousands of people have contacted the family on telephone, email, SMSs and social media to enquire about the health of Aafia. These people have expressed anger over letting go American diplomatic official and killer of a Pakistani citizen Colonel Joseph without first seeking release of Aafia. She said one reason of spreading rumors about Aafia may be to divert the anger of public over return of Colonel Joseph.
She said it is being said that the preparations are under way to hand over the traitor Dr Shakil Afridi to the US and an American plane is ready to take him to the US. She said the prayers of millions of people are with Dr Aafia and this solidarity is also a source of courage for Aafia family.

Dr Fowzia Siddiqui appealed to the nation for special prayers for Aafia Siddiqui in the holy month of Ramzan.

*ISLAMABAD: *Dr Aafia Siddiqui in US jail has accused personal assistant to Pakistan’s former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani, of siphoning off the $2 million allocated by the government of Pakistan for trial in 2010.

Aafia described Haqqani as unhelpful and uninterested in her case. She stated that this was public money which had been taken by the two.

She further categorically stated unlike the misconceptions about her association with banned organisations, Aafia had little to do with slain al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

A confidential report prepared by Pakistan’s consul general in Houston, United States of America, of her visit to Dr Aafia Siddiqui claimed that she was subjected to physical and sexual abuse during her ongoing detention.

Consul General Aisha Farooqui visited Aafia at the Federal Medical Center in Carswell, Texas. The report recommends diplomatic authorities to take up the case at the highest levels to find a way for her repatriation so that she can serve her remaining sentence in Pakistan, where her modesty and privacy would not be interfered with.

Aafia’s sister Fowzia Siddiqui submitted the report of the consul general’s May 23 meeting with her.

The report presents details of the miserable state of Aafia, who is being detained, and details of her struggles to protect her dignity, integrity and respect paint a different picture altogether.

It is recommended that a detailed note be sent to the US Department of Justice for an inquiry into the allegations of physical and sexual abuse Aafia spoke of. CG Farooqui also suggested suggested a formal request to be made to the US Department of Justice to restrict male staff members into her unit and to ensure her safety.

Aafia has accused the male staffer of urinating on her possessions.

“Explore a legal mechanism for her repatriation to Pakistan to complete her sentence in Pakistan, where at least she would be safe and would be able to meet her mother and children, who she has not met in almost eight years,” the report further recommends.

During her two-hour meeting, Farooqui stated, she saw Dr Aafia’s nervousness and phobias, and fear of everything and everyone at the facility. It was clear that she was afraid of the jail staff, their violations of her privacy, repeatedly confiscation of her things, the rampant threat of physical and sexual abuse and institutionalised rape and bisexuality that she claimed existed at the FMC Carswell.

“For a practising Muslim woman to be incarcerated in a facility where there was an existential threat of being raped and sexually abused repeatedly is an untenable situation and should not be allowed to continue. In spite of all this, I found Dr Aafia determined, hopeful and full of faith in Allah and Pakistani people that there will be help sent for their daughter specially and that sooner rather than later she would get out of the prison,” CG Farooqui wrote in the report.

Report further reveals that Aafia has no confidence in the New York-based lawyers engaged by her sister. She requested the consul general to tell her family to replace her legal team as soon as possible.

“In her opinion, only her previous attorney, Tina Foster, could be relied upon as she was sincere and was also Muslim. She was also the one who got her son Ahmed out of the secret prison in Afghanistan.”

Aafia also alleged that jail authorities confiscated her belongings. Her phone calls to family members were recorded and monitored. When asked why she did not call her mother in Karachi, Aafia said she didn’t feel comfortable talking to her in the presence of the jail staff.

Aafia also expressed mistrust that jail authorities dialed inaccurate phone numbers on purpose. She suspected that it wasn’t her mother or family on the other end of the line.

“She repeatedly told me she was constantly disturbed in her room and her privacy was consistently violated by jail staff who harassed her, threatened her and attempted to sexually abuse her as well on a number of things. Jail staff, including her case supervisor Annie Noblett, barged into her room, confiscated her belongings and made fun of her and even snatched her scarf off her head,” the report read.

“Her belongings were often missing she was of the view that there could be some drugs given to her which made her incoherent and not in her senses like on the three occasions when had visited her previously
,” CG Farooqui wrote in the report.

About her written submission to the judge for not filing an appeal against her sentence in 2011, Aafia said she did it because she was not expecting justice from the same judge in the appeal, while additionally claiming that her case was “lost in the US Supreme Court” due to the incompetence of her lawyers. She asserted that her trial was a sham.

When CG Farooqui asked Aafia if she would like her mother and sister to visit her, she refused by saying, “Please don’t bring them here”. Aafia also stated that she tried profusely to stay true to her religion and its practices, but termed her detainment center as severely unhygienic and alleged that she was given unclean materials and detergents.

Aafia also alleged that her case supervisor and two others attempted to rape her in February. The CG also mentioned that Aafia didn’t want to be photographed in jail. However, she wrote a short message in Urdu for her mother which is also attached to the report.

Fowzia while submitting the report, lamented that she was extremely upset while reading the report and requested the SC to make it part of the case proceedings.

On June 7, the apex court asked the federal government to find out within three days whether Dr Aafia is still alive or otherwise. According to Fowzia, the government has failed to submit anything in this regard.

On February 3, 2010, a US federal court in New York found Dr Aafia guilty of two counts of attempted murder, armed assault, using and carrying a firearm, and three counts of assault on US officers and employees. She was sentenced to 86 years in prison.
