Dr.Afia Siddique: News & Updates

Breaking this news....Afia will be traded with Shakeel Afridi...if all goes well.

And why is nobody crying foul now? Why are we trading a Pakistani national away (Afridi) for an American citizen (Siddiqui)? This quam has no bearings at all sometimes...I hope this is fake news. Shakil Afridi in the US will just create more issues for you. Idiots.

Shakeel afidi is a CIA asset vs. Aafia siddiqui is not an ISI asset. I highly doubt the ISI will care even a little for her.

It's a reality many must face. Intelligence agencies don't run on emotion but rather rationality.

. .
Dr. Afia Siddiqui is not the daughter of Pakistan. This so-called "daughter" chose to adopt American citizenship. When the Americans came after her, they were technically picking up their own citizen.

She has nothing to do with Pakistan. Her story also doesn't add up - my personal hunch is she was a CIA agent who went rogue and ended up supplying important information to the ISI in regards to CIA and American activities in the AfPak region.

This is why she was put on trial in a military court in the US.

End of story.
First of all she was born here...
2nd its a big lie that she was a American Citizen. A farce that ISI n Army of Mushy had concocted.

The record of Pakistani Government is extremely poor when it comes to advocating support for Pakistanis in trouble world wide. The foreign elements are eager to dust their clothes up and focus on matter of Mujra in private parties instead of Human Right violations being comitted against Pakistanis

Lets review

a) Abuse of Pakistani workers in Middle east , low salaies based on racial factors
b) Abuse at Middle eastern airports , with excessive checks and blocks
c) Lack of lawyer and support to people stuck internationally for petty violations.
d) Disregard for private data belonging to Pakistani citizens , we see 8 year olds being stopped at airports
e) Implementing agenda for data theft on Pakistani Citizens , for no reason but to spy on people
f) Gross negligence when it comes to death of Pakistani citizens at hands of so called diplomats and consultants
g) Allowing usage of Airforce assets belonging to foreign entity to run campaigns of missile strike

For Pakistan , our higher upppers , are entertaining useless organizations instead of maintaining a solid posture of no engagement with Third party advocacy , as they are not recognized by Pakistan

Example of Useless Time wasting engagements

a) Having a military engagement with a country with evil intention at gawadar port
not once but multiple engagemens living in 60's

b) Entertaining a body called FATF , when Pakistan is not signatory of it's policies it's rules
do not apply on Pakistani Soil or our System

c) Agreeing to give up Taxaxtion on Afghanistani Cargo for 10-15 years

.
Here is the unfortunate truth of the matter: if Shakeel Afridi did not exist, we would not be discussing Afia Siddiqui. This is an organized attempt to raise support and make a case for handing over Shakeel, albeit with a tiny semblance of dignity by asking for Afia Siddiqui. The unfortunate reality is the establishment mistakenly believes this would be a step towards normalizing relations with America and that we are negotiating as equals. The truth of the matter is that Americans consider us less than a cockroach crawling in a gutter. By now, probably Dr Aafia has completely lost her senses, and would be unable to testify about the horrors perpetrated upon her. They will hand over the shell of the woman in return for their man.

And the fact of the matter is that the entire case against Dr. Aafia does not make sense. Why would a neuro surgeon travel to Afghanistan that lacks the facilities needed to utilize her skills? If she had a mission as alleged, then that mission was better served in Pakistan. And WHY would she take her son to such a lawless place? Immediately after her arrest, the Urdu newspaper Ummat published a series of investigative articles which suggest that her husband tipped her off to the CIA in an act of malice. And she was kidnapped from Karachi rather than arrested in Afghanistan.

With this latest fiasco, we continue to display subservience to American diktat and bootlicking. Highly shameful!

Well if Shakil Afridi is released he will go to USA and become a Parot for Americans for imposing sanctions on Pakistan

Americans will present him as a expert on Pakistan/World relations , and claim he knew too much and he is here no giving interview on CNN and the Afghani/ or that Indian reporter will take the interview and claim something is cooking in Pakistan. Wolfie might also jump in

  • Against Pakistani interest to release a foreign Spy who ran a Spy ring in Pakistan

The issue with Afridi is is he commited crime against Children fake polio vacination preventing proper medical care for children perhaps Thousands childern who did not get medicine at right time. Endandering lives of Children is a grave crime

The issue of Afia is , a kidnapping case (foreign entity) and then we don't know what happened behind closed doors. Return of the person is necessary so Pakistan can judge what took place. If person is kidnapped , then any so called struggle from that person is questionable as we don't know what occured behind closed doors. Some folks claim the person was entrapped by kidnapping of their children stories

The issue of Afia is a 100% Diplomatic engagement matter was the person kidnapped or what were the stories around the incident and even so Pakistani Government should get person released so they can be trialed in Pakistani court

In just one of the interview Mr.Musharraf claimed that he wasn't aware that Afia was being kidnapped in Pakistani soil or else he would have taken meausres.
Those people who try to soothe themselves by demonizing Afia, do not understand it that it could be their daughter too tommorow.
In addition to that, they are themselves too chicken to do anything so all they can do is to close their eyes and believe wjatewha they are fed.Thr fact is that Pakistani citizens are treated worse than insect in many cases. It is because our government has poor policy for it's citizens.Be it middle east or any other country. If Pakistani govt. had maintained strict policy for the rights of their citizen then Pakistani citizens won't be treated like shit.
We have signed international treaty and we are bounded to return any citizen of US but a woman is kidnapped inside Pakistani soil from Islamabad and being handed over to US.
How beghairat can we get.
...and then I see more behgairti when I try to raise this issue that Afia should be handed over to Pakistan as she is Pakistani citizen.Instead of responding concrete affirmation, all I see is phata hua dhol.
No matter what Dr.Afia has done or whatever your conjecture is she is a Pakistani citizen: Face it.

There should be some meaningful action taken by the government for her release. The silence is shameful. Only Imran Khan seems to say anything seriously. @Slav Defence I am happy to help if I can in any way.

According to this article, that won't happen.

Is Pakistan trying to swap bin Laden doctor Afridi with Aafia Siddiqui?
Pakistani officials have said that Shakil Afridi, an incarcerated doctor who allegedly helped the US find bin Laden in 2011, will not be released. Washington has been pressing Islamabad to release Afridi but to no avail.

Local media claimed that Pakistani authorities made an offer to US President Barack Obama that they would free Dr. Shakil Afridi in exchange for the release of Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, who was found guilty in 2010 by a New York court of trying to kill US servicemen in Afghanistan.

"A leading Pakistani newspaper did make this claim, however it can't be verified," Sattar Khan, DW's Islamabad correspondent, told DW, adding that despite repeated calls government ministers could not be contacted.

"I think the Pakistani government made this offer to appease its conservative voters who support Siddiqui," Khan underlined.

In May 2012, Afridi - the man who is believed to have assisted the United States in discovering the whereabouts of al Qaeda's former chief Osama bin Laden - was sentenced to 33 years in prison for treason by a Pakistani court. Pakistani authorities have since kept Afridi in solitary confinement in a secret prison. Only few officials can meet or talk to him. Afridi is not allowed to speak to his family or the media.

Bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011 by US Special Forces in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad in a covert operation. The Pakistani government claims that prior to bin Laden's assassination, Afridi had been working as a spy for the US' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), distributing fake vaccinations in Abbottabad in the hopes of finding a sample of bin Laden's DNA.

Aafia Siddiqui's case remains full of mysteries

Observers say that the decision to imprison Afridi was legally flawed and was more of a punishment for helping the CIA find the al Qaeda leader, which eventually strained Pakistan's ties with the US.

For years, Pakistan had denied having any knowledge on the whereabouts of bin Laden - at the time, the world's most-wanted terrorist. That bin Laden was discovered in Abbottabad close to PMA Kakul, the Pakistani army's prestigious military academy, caused much embarrassment to both the military and civilian leadership of Pakistan.

A 'traitor'

On Wednesday, January 18, Pakistani Law Minister Zahid Hamid said that Afridi would neither be released nor be handed over to the US, thus refuting the media claims about the proposed swap deal.

"Afridi worked against the law and our national interest, and the Pakistani government has repeatedly been telling the United States that under our law he committed a crime and was facing the law," Hamid was quoted as saying by "The Daily Times" newspaper.

But Sattar Khan said the authorities are still looking for some kind of a deal with Washington over Afridi's potential release.

"The government still wants to take up this issue with Donald Trump when he takes charge in Washington on January 20. But the chances of any agreement over Afridi are slim. It would be interesting to see how Pakistan would act to justify a deal after declaring Afridi a traitor," Khan told DW.

No media attention

Observers say that the plight of Afridi has largely been ignored in local and international media, and that he has not been given a chance to a fair trial. Pakistani rights activists say that Afridi's trial was marred with legal inconsistencies. They also say that the evidence presented against Afridi consisted mostly of reports compiled by Pakistan's security agencies and that it was not strong enough.

In March 2015, Afridi's lawyer Samiullah Afridi was gunned down in the outskirts of Peshawar, a turbulent northwestern Pakistani city. Two separate Taliban splinter groups claimed responsibility for the murder.

In 2014, Samiullah Afridi complained that his client was not treated well in prison, and that he was being falsely implicated in a treason case by Pakistani authorities. Afridi himself demanded better conditions in jail in a letter that Samiullah presented to the media.

"I have been arrested and implicated in a false case," Afridi said in the letter. "I am perhaps the first Pakistani who has been denied access to his lawyer. What kind of justice is this?"

Riaz Shaikh, a political analyst in Karachi, is of the view that even the apex court of Pakistan is not ready to take up the doctor's case because it has "certain limitations" when it comes to matters of national security. He says that the international community, too, has stopped pursuing Afridi's case. "The US initially put pressure on the Pakistani government to release Afridi but I think it has reached a compromise to improve relations with Islamabad," Shaikh told DW in an interview.

Afridi's case has also had a negative impact on Pakistan's drive against polio. The Pakistani Taliban say the polio eradication campaigns in the country are un-Islamic and are being used by the US as a cover for spying. The militant Islamists have blocked anti-polio inoculations in the restive tribal region of Waziristan and some other parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan. They have also killed scores of vaccination workers in the past few years.

Pakistan reportedly refuses to exchange Shakil Afridi for Aafia Siddiqui
MAY 1, 2018 BY NEWS DESK

Pakistan has refused to exchange Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped catch al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, for Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui who is serving a jail term in the United States after Washington made an offer for exchange, Sputnik reported on Monday.

The CIA reportedly failed to conduct an operation to stage a prison break for Pakistani physician Dr Afridi who had helped the US authorities track down bin Laden.

“The CIA planned to pull Dr Afridi from the Peshawar prison, trying to organise a prison break, but the attempt was disrupted by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A local informant who also worked for the CIA handed over information and was aware of the plan. ISI became aware that the CIA was also interested in the plan of the prison itself,” a source who refused to reveal his name told Sputnik.

The information has been confirmed by another source speaking to Sputnik, who said that Washington had earlier turned to Islamabad with a request to extradite Dr Afridi to the US.

“Special services protect the informants who had been disclosed in order to preserve the confidence of other secret agents and informants working with them, especially in foreign countries. Because of this, the CIA has repeatedly asked for the extradition of Dr Afridi. This was one of the main demands on the list of requirements for Pakistan by US President Trump,” another source said.

The source went on to suggest that the release of Dr Afridi and his extradition to the US is crucial for other CIA operations in the Asian region.

“Apparently, Pakistan refused to release Dr Afridi because of the army’s position, which believes that this will not only violate the sovereignty of the country and undermine its legal system, but will also bolster the US intelligence activity. Pakistan has also refused to exchange Dr Afridi for Dr Siddiqui,” the source added.

The development comes in the wake of reports that Dr Afridi was transferred from a Peshawar prison to another facility. A source familiar with the situation told Sputnik that the doctor was placed in another jail because of the planned prison break.

The source also said that the issue of Dr Afridi’s release is one of the major obstacles to the improvement of the ties between the US and Pakistan.

The CIA, in turn, refused to comment on the news that Pakistani intelligence thwarted the agency’s plan to orchestrate a prison escape for Dr Afridi.

Earlier, a US State Department official said that Washington hopes that the Pakistani authorities will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Dr Afridi.

“Pakistan has assured us that Dr Afridi is being treated humanely and is in good health,” the official stressed.

Soon after the death of bin Laden in May 2011, the US media reported that Dr Afridi had contributed to the success of the CIA operation by collecting DNA samples of bin Laden’s family by order of the intelligence agency. Then-CIA director Leon Panetta and then-US secretary of state Hillary Clinton had confirmed the doctor’s role in eliminating the terrorist, after which Dr Afridi was arrested by Pakistani authorities. The fact that the US had conducted the operation in Pakistan resulted in a deterioration of bilateral ties.

SC seeks report on Dr Aafia from Pak embassy in US

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday directed the Pakistani Consulate in Washington to submit within three days, a report on imprisoned scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a petition filed by Aafia Siddiqui’s sister Dr Fouzia Siddiqui. Fouzia told the bench that Pakistani Consul General Aisha Farooqui recently visited Aafia Siddiqui in a Texas prison.

The chief justice, however, said that there were rumours of the imprisoned scientist’s death. The chief justice said that Pakistan Embassy in Washington should tell whether Dr Aafia is even alive. “Let the Pakistan Embassy in Washington should file a report within three days in the matter”, chief justice remarked.

Aafia Siddiqui was indicted by a New York Federal District Court in September 2008 on charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from an incident in an interview with US authorities in Ghazni, charges which Siddiqui denied.

After 18 months in detention, she was tried and convicted in early 2010 and sentenced to 86 years in prison. Reports circulating recently on social media suggested that Aafia Siddiqui had passed away in US captivity. However, Pakistani Consul General Aisha Farooqui, rejecting rumours after meeting her at Carswell detention facility in Fort Worth, Texas last month.

Aafia's sister Dr Fauzia had said at the time that they had not been told anything about Aafia's state by the government of Pakistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the US prison officials. She had said that they had had no contact with her sister for the past two years, adding that despite countless efforts, they could not find an answer to their queries from either Pakistani or US officials.
