Dont do program on Asghar Khan case, Media Owners pressurized by ??

@ Rafi : Whats exactly you're solution for getting out of this war ? What do we do ? How do we end this ? We're broke & with certain sanctions looming over we'd be reduced to near bankruptcy...how do we continue fighting ?

I know...! My Grandpa served first in the British Indian Army & then the Pakistan Army saw both the 2nd World War (the Middle Eastern, African & the Burmese theater as an Engineer) & his son (my taya) served in the armored corp in the Pakistan Army & he in turn saw sporadic action in West Pakistan (I think near Sialkot) in '71.
& you with your expertise in tree & nuts with peanut butter ?

remeber a case in Musharraf era. It made it in to press. A sitting lt.general (it was hinted to be VCOAS) child got into brawl with retired decorated brigadier grand son. Grand son thrashed the kid. Kid ran to daddy. Daddy send a ISI major with pickup load of soldiers who thrashed the grandson. Brigadier came in between and he got beaten too. News came in to media. ISI major and soldiers were dishonorablly discharged from army. And general was given a warning not to do such thing again. Decorated 1965 war hero brigadier was involved. So musharraf appologized to him

so tell us rafi such misuse of authority is not done in Army? Or Army is comprised of saints?

Civilians lay their lives every day. police man blown up in suicide bombs. Civilians intel operatives, bomb disposable squads... But guess whose the most criticized institution of Pakistan POLICE yes POLICE? Did they ever complain about criticism??

We must integrate FATA into Pakistan proper, you can't have your left foot in, left foot out, shake it about and do the hooky cookey and turn around. And then carry on with carrots and sticks - we left this integration and securing of the border - for 65 years, if this had been done before, it would not have been necessary to do now.

People of FATA have also to decide whether they want to live in a modern state or carry on living in the dark ages.

Again half truths, and the Police actually do complain about their sacrifices not being acknowledged - have you ever talked to a Policeman.

I fear a greater reprisal in what you suggest then in what Imran Khan is suggesting ! If I may be allowed to quote, from memory, a conversation I was having with Icarus (someone whose served in those areas) : Shoving a dysfunctional system down their (the people of FATA) throats will lead to a reprisal. They are being eased into the mainstream slowly (we gave them the right to vote in the '90s & now there is talk of replacing the FCR with the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan as it is in the provinces of Pakistan). In the meantime remarkably their Jirga system, though having some stomach turning down sides, has ensured that their areas are largely crime free. There is bound to be a reprisal. Its all good to be idealistic & I support that in principle but I don't the time is now to accelerate the integration; I think another 2 decades would be needed. In the meantime, as Icarus, maintained the Tribal Lashkars along with the Frontier Corp are more than capable of handling the insurgents & that the Army is gradually being recalled from those areas as more & more control is given to the Local Tribals & the Paramilitary Forces to maintain law & order over there. I think Imran Khan is partially correct in that, no one, accept the people of the Tribal Areas, themselves can ensure that peace prevails there. To that end a disengagement from the US led WOT & a realignment of Our WOT is the call of the hour both for the purpose of perceptions & because its high time to recognize that our aims & objectives are not going to be honored by either the Americans or the Afghan Governments & to that end lets leave no stone unturned to bring the Tribal People on board ! Give them livelihood & withdraw from theirs areas (as we seem to be) by giving control over to them & the FC (which is predominantly recruited from the same Tribals); by doing this you would have achieved two things : 1) you would have shown them sincerity in that you genuinely care about their welfare...hence the development projects & giving them livelihood, & 2) a person with some means of livelihood, a family of his own & the promise of a future will think a million times before picking up the Ak-47 or strapping on a suicide vest & ramming into the nearest military check post.

I agree to an extent, but we cannot abandon a part of our country to be perpetually lawless, and in a backward way, they too must be bought into the mainstream and demand the rights and privileges of other parts of the country.
