A tank is a weapon system whose traits are mobility , manoeuvre & firepower.

Mountains do not provide space to manoeuvre & very limited fields of fire. Movement is along easily defined & narrow tracks. It essentially becomes a pill box which is worst employment of such weapon platforms.

Timur btw was a descendant of Genghis Khan, the Khan designate is from Mongolian tribes, Turks were mongol until they conquered till Caucasoid areas and intermarried with the locals creating central asian looks.
