No, unnecessary. Weak in terms of armor/protection/survivability, too risky to be used for transport of large amount of troops and equipment in any war scenario, will be sunck at the very least effort, a hit from air or ground, artillery or jets or even maybe smaller caliber fire.. it is a sitting duck, just a nice target practice for enemy forces.

Like @mehmeTcc says, Even though we have a huge number of amphibious ships, We are nowhere near capable of invading Greece and its thousands of Aegean isles, Even with our upcoming LHD and LSTs. Let me tell you why, Mainly because of the fact Greece has more then twice the coastline then Turkey, Around 14.000km if i remember correctly.

These are very simple vessels that should be cheap and easy to develop so it shouldn't be a problem for Turkish shipbuilding industry. I expect unit costs to stay low. In fact, I don't even see any point in running this thread, our needs are quite obvious.

Zubr was a bad call for HN, hence it didn't change the balance. And Just because they are on the defensive doesn't mean Greece won't need an amphibious force to keep the control of her islands. We are living in the peaceful times but doesn't mean it'll remain this way forever.

Exactly, we don't need big ships in Aegean, we need numerous ships. The navy will mostly operate LHD at Mediterranean and surrounding seas. This ship will show our flag in NATO exercises and participate in future task groups.

In a possible war, LHD will form the spine of our amphibious force. You don't throw ships like that to frontlines.
